Therefore, it is shown that it is impossible to attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment by having desires such as these and relying entirely on desires. "There has never been such a Buddha before," which means that no Buddha in the past has attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment as a householder, having sons and daughters. Or in the future and the present, it is contradictory to have states of affliction and non-affliction. It is certain that the king will renounce kingship and so on, completely abandon afflictions with outflows, and will surely conquer all afflictive demons and so on, and attain unsurpassed enlightenment, which is unconditioned. Therefore, the Tathagata will not be pleased by all the necessary offerings such as food and drink, but how to renounce, diligently guard pure conduct, constantly focus on the thorough understanding of all conditioned phenomena, turn towards a solitary place, and leave seven steps, then this merit is far superior to the former, which is widely spread. Hearing such praises of renunciation, thinking, "For what reason should I also shave my hair and beard, wear monastic robes, and renounce from home with faith?" Then, together with his retinue, he went to the Tathagata, and having arrived, he renounced. Having renounced in this way, he held this samadhi, and with this root of virtue, he was freed from all wrong views that fall into all the evil destinies. He attended and honored twenty million kotis of Buddhas. From them he heard this samadhi. He held it. He meditated on it. With that root of virtue, he attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and became known as Wisdom Hero. He worked for the benefit of countless beings, and passed into nirvana by the nirvana of the Buddha, in order to tame those who can be tamed. Together with King Great Power, the Tathagata...

Those retinues who came before Yangchen Jin (Skt. Mañjuśrī) also renounced in the same way after hearing this samādhi. Having renounced, they widely heard this samādhi, fully understood it, and after a million complete kalpas, manifested enlightenment, perfectly awakened to unsurpassed and complete enlightenment, and became known in the world as the Tathāgata Dpabrtan. Likewise, after benefiting sentient beings, they completely passed into nirvāṇa. These indicate that the most compatible thing after meditating on samādhi is renunciation. Completely abandoning home and wife, etc., is also the cause of this. Then, beginning with "At that time," etc., the chapter on preliminary practices is perfectly explained in verses. The meaning should be understood as explained before. In the past, in a kalpa beyond my memory and thought, I was the chief of men. And so on, it shows the experience in the past. The incalculable kalpa is impossible to think about because it is beyond number. At that time in the past of incalculable kalpas, the Tathāgata Yangkyi Jin and so on, the meaning of the superior text is shown, and because it is shown in verses, it is easy to understand, so it is not explained. In the text of the chapter on preliminary practices, it is adorned with meaning, taught by the Bodhisattva who realized the beings of the King of Sages. In order to meditate, the mind has taken everything, so the mind should take and meditate on it in the same way. This is the end of the commentary on the fifth chapter of Yangchen Jin. In order to definitely accomplish the samādhi as stated, the practice of completely training the samādhi. Then, again, he said, "From then on," and so on. What is the complete practice of samādhi? The question is asked in order to dispel confusion about complete training. Beginning with "This youth," and so on, the Blessed One is about to show everything. With a mind arising from great compassion, it means that engaging in the benefit of others becomes a Bodhisattva.
