However, it is for the sake of attaining the wisdom of the Buddha. The merits of practice that are preceded by great compassion are also for the sake of attaining Buddhahood itself. In order to attain samadhi, one should abide in generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, free from jealousy and stinginess. The merit of giving alms by filling realms of the world as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River with precious jewels is less than holding just a four-line verse that reveals this samadhi, because it is the cause of approaching Buddhahood itself, so it should be understood that it accumulates much merit. Even if the benefits are fully proclaimed for kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, the qualities of the Buddha cannot be completely expressed. Therefore, those who wish to attain the fruit of Buddhahood should always strive with intelligence to hold even just a verse from the Samadhiraja Sutra. The Sutra Entering Great Compassion should be listened to with diligence, and not just by hearing the words, this is a brief explanation. Just as one knows the past without obstruction, so too one enters into knowing the future without obstruction, as it is said, "The guide of the world has passed into nirvana," and so on. After the guide of the world has passed into nirvana, in later times, many monks without vows will not want to hear much, and they will only praise generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom with words, but they do not desire these things. For example, "Like some people, they praise this kind of sandalwood." This example shows that they are just talking about it. They praise discipline and so on only for the sake of making a living, but they do not have these qualities themselves. Just as "Like some poor people, they are despised by many people," being despised means being degraded. Similarly, one should also look at those who have fallen from samadhi. Just as that person later obtained a great treasure of wealth, which is a treasure desired by a great assembly of people.

If one becomes the owner of great power, then a large gathering of people will make offerings. Similarly, when someone attains this samadhi, all the worlds, including the gods, will make offerings to him. As in "Where do the Buddhas pass into nirvana?" etc., it speaks of the greatness of samadhi. Chandraprabha Kumara, with a joyful mind, asked, "After the noble being has completely passed into nirvana," etc. As in "In the evil times, I will hold this sutra," it means that when the evil times of the degenerate age come, I should hold this sutra. How did Chandraprabha Kumara cause five hundred Bodhisattvas to diligently uphold the scriptures? By definitely accomplishing the remembrance of the Buddha, his wisdom and power greatly increased, he was surrounded by a hundred sons of the Buddha, and he became known in the world as omniscient. The chapter on remembering the Buddha, the third chapter, is completed. Now, intending to explain the chapter on samadhi, he said, "Then," etc. As in "Where is the Blessed One at ease, joining his palms in reverence and saying this," it means that I am asking the Blessed One about some aspects, because it is not possible to ask about all aspects at the same time. "If the Blessed One opens an opportunity for me" means opening an opportunity to ask. To foreshadow that the question is allowed, it means if he answers. "Always open the opportunity, ask whatever you want," means that he is always in equipoise, so it is not that there is no opportunity at any time. Blessed One, samadhi, samadhi, what does this mean, this is stating one's own intention. Explaining the nature of samadhi: What is called samadhi, samadhi, is like this: What is called mind निश्चित (Tibetan: སེམས་ངེས་པར་རྟོགས་པ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: चित्त सुनिश्चित,Sanskrit Romanization: citta suniścita,Literal Chinese meaning: mind definitely knowing), mind निश्चित (Tibetan: སེམས་ངེས་པར་རྟོགས་པ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: चित्त सुनिश्चित,Sanskrit Romanization: citta suniścita,Literal Chinese meaning: mind definitely knowing) refers to being free from the proliferation of निश्चित (Tibetan: ངེས་པར་,Sanskrit Devanagari: सुनिश्चित,Sanskrit Romanization: suniścita,Literal Chinese meaning: definitely) conceptualization, equally seeing the ultimate nature of each, and the unity of mind and equality, focusing on one point, this is called samadhi. This is for the sake of others to understand, but in reality, the ultimate truth transcends all realms of speech, is unborn, and is conceptualization.
