That is called the classification of names. The characteristic of following is substance. The characteristic of reversal is form, etc., which is called the classification of characteristics. The need for a vase is the need to fetch water. The need for form, etc., is the result of transforming into conformity with oneself and what follows, which is called the classification of results. If one says this, then one should respond to it. If one contemplates, when the nature of the essence of cognition is combined with the categories of substance, does it combine with the previous nature of itself? Or does it completely abandon the previous essence? If one contemplates in this way, then according to the first contemplation, since there is no difference between the prior and later states, the cognition is not completely transformed. What is meant by completely transformed is that one abandons the prior state and completely takes on another state. Because it does not have an unchanging nature, it is not reasonable to be completely transformed by mere words. Combination is that which has no difference between the prior and later states is not completely transformed, like space. For cognition, the absence of difference between the prior and later states means that the pervasive is not observed. If one contemplates according to the second contemplation, it will also become abandoning the previous nature of oneself and giving rise to another nature, like cloth arising from rope. How is that completely transformed? Combination is that which does not abide in an unchanging nature is not completely transformed, just as cloth arises while there is still a vase with an unchanging nature. The statement that because the previous nature of oneself is completely abandoned, it is transformed into another nature means that the contradiction of the pervasive is observed. Whatever has the nature of both is neither a difference in the categories of substance, nor is it without difference. Even so, whether it is different, not different, or both, there will be no faults as previously stated, if one says so. Even so, it is not beautiful. If one admits that there is no difference in the categories of substance, then since all self-natures are without difference, how can there be a difference that is the opposite of that? One.

Simultaneous negation and affirmation, being mutually contradictory, is illogical. The argument is: wherever there is no distinction, there the distinction that contradicts it will not appear. For example, just as the substances of its various kinds each have their own unique self-nature, and the nature of the essence of that self-nature is without distinction. Whatever kind of substance is without distinction, that must certainly exist, and this is considered the manifestation of contradiction. Or, that which possesses the opposite and is not different from its own essence is because it possesses the opposite. For example, the substance that is called not different from the nature that possesses the opposite from the essence of the kind is the reason of nature. Or, whatever form is inseparable from the nature of following, that is only inseparable from the nature of following, it is the nature of matter. The essence that is inseparable from the nature of following, and the nature of happiness and suffering, etc., is called the reason of nature. Otherwise, even if there is harm from opposing dharmas, there is no distinction. Because there is no distinction, there will also be no distinction. Because the names of distinction and non-distinction are interrupted, beings will also become without entering and returning, and this is a measure that is harmful if negated. Therefore, being separated from the essence of following and opposing, being devoid of the nature of before and after, merely clinging to the object that arises now, the self-aware essence is direct perception, therefore, through direct perception, selflessness is established. Even if it is established through direct perception, the subsequent inference should be established, because it is to dispel the objections of outsiders against selflessness with their own actions, so do not be too attached to this, that is what is thought. Falling into the thick entanglement of clinging to self, the evil measure of outsiders is like the wind blowing trees, the rock of peaceful wisdom is shattered like a thunderbolt. After being destroyed into gravel, how can it arise again? Therefore, all dharmas are selfless, without beings, without life, thus it is proclaimed. From the beginning it is emptiness, the future dharma. And so on. If the external object
