Also, that is the same, because it is one's own consciousness, so it is said to be like one's own initial consciousness. The pervasive measure is also the same, that is, earth, water, fire, wind, and mind, which are called the places of dispute, even if they exist for a long time, they are related to my self, because they have obstruction, have power, are other, are not other, and have the distinction of mutual correct combination, just like self-nature and so on. Through these, existence, permanence, and pervasiveness are established. If that is permanent and pervasive, then the agent, the enjoyer, birth, old age, death, life, killing, etc., will not be contradictory. Even so, knowledge, wanting to do, and effort, etc., gather together on the selfless, which is called the agent. Happiness and suffering correctly knowing gather together, which is called the enjoyer. The cause of that happiness and suffering is enjoyment. That which gathers together on the self is the enjoyer. Birth is the body, senses, wisdom, and feelings, etc., of completely pure types, which are manifested and combined without having been obtained before. Separation from that previous one is death. The self with a body, and the mind associated with dharma and non-dharma, is called life. Harming the basis of need and the continuity of action is called killing. The meaning of that is this, for sentient beings with the nature of immortality, correctly experiencing feelings such as happiness, the basis of the fruit is the body, and the continuity of the agent senses that are close to the object is cut off, which is called killing. Those should be answered. With the combination of permanence, etc., the object spoken of with six word meanings, what is said by direct perception, etc., is not established, because it does not hold the substance of direct perception, Not holding is also because the eyes, etc., are definite for their respective objects. That is, the eye holds form, but not taste, etc.

Because the remaining faculties would become meaningless. Similarly, the ear only grasps sound, not forms, etc. Likewise, the remaining ones are also certain to grasp their respective objects. By what is it that those distinct substances, such as forms, etc., are grasped? If it is said that it is to be established by inference, even so, direct perception is prior, and without it, how can one be pleased to engage in inference? "By the distinctions of my knowledge, the knowable, which is distinct from the body, is known"—this is establishing what is already established, because the omniscient one and the yogi free from desire, who are distinct from your object, know it. Whatever is shown as a similar example, such as "like the knowledge of another person," that is also devoid of what is to be established, because all consciousnesses are of the nature of self-awareness. According to the tenet that consciousness is known by another consciousness, it would lead to an infinite regress, which is the fault of having no establishment. All of these are consciousness itself, because it is the ultimate self-awareness, so there is nothing else other than that—according to this view, it would be the fault of clearly establishing what is already established. Similarly, for others as well, one should state the fault of establishing what is already established for those who possess a birth that has become dependent on reasoning. Whatever is said by the manifester, "Devadatta, I see with the consciousness that separately combines with forms, etc., I hear with the consciousness that separately combines with sounds," because this makes one understand that the agent is the same, it is not reasonable to say, "That which separately combines with something is me," because such things as permanence, constant discrimination, and being the only one are not seen to separately combine, it is impossible. Permanence, constant discrimination, agent, enjoyer, follower, etc., because there is no concomitance and no non-arising without it, it is merely imputed, like the son of a barren woman. If so, with what does it separately combine? With the momentary mind, which, due to beginningless ignorance, is fixated as one, and is confused in the manner of separate combination.
