will regress. Even if they cannot be made to be confused, they will regress from the mind of Bodhi due to sinful obscurations, this is the second cause. Speaking words of non-praise, unpleasantness, and unspeakable verses to beings who have correctly entered the Mahayana is to cause those who seek the Dharma to turn away from where they can hear the Dharma. In order to turn those who wish to believe in or practice the Mahayana away from faith, they speak words of non-praise to beings who have correctly entered the Mahayana. Speaking faults without distinction, with distinction, and after distinguishing. Among them, completely speaking faults without distinction is to utter verses of non-praise, such as saying "having bad qualities." Speaking faults with distinction is to utter verses of unpleasantness, such as saying "engaging in impure conduct." Speaking faults after distinguishing is to utter verses that cannot be spoken, such as saying "in this and this way." Thus, because of speaking faults to Bodhisattvas without distinction, with distinction, and after distinguishing, those who wish to practice the Mahayana are confused. In this way, disrespect arises towards Bodhisattvas, and because virtues are properly concealed, unbearable karmic obscurations arise, and so on. These obscurations will cause the mind of vows that he has correctly taken to regress. Even if one cannot properly conceal the virtues of a Bodhisattva, his mind will regress due to sinful obscurations, this is the third cause. Deceit and flattery are to be used to get close to others, but not out of higher intention, which is to confuse people by revealing the secret places of the Dharma speakers. Among them, deceit means acting wrongly through pretense. Flattery means having a cunning mind. Not out of higher intention means following what is not one's nature, combining by revealing the secret places of the Dharma speakers, Bodhicitta

Having heard the secret places from the heroic Dharma speakers, one should turn back the faith of those who wish to practice the Mahayana. By doing so, one accumulates great karmic obscurations. Those karmic obscurations cause the mind to deteriorate by becoming distant from the state attained by Dharma-nature. Even if one fails to turn back their faith, the mind will still deteriorate due to such obscurations of wrongdoing. In short, from what does it deteriorate? From the mind. When does it deteriorate? In this life and in other lives. How does it deteriorate? In practice, it deteriorates by having wrong views towards the teacher and others. By how many causes? By four causes, which have already been explained. The antidote to that should be understood in the aspect of white Dharma, which is to not speak false words knowingly even for the sake of one's life, which is to protect the truth and not care for body and life. Even for the sake of laughter, one should not do it, which is to see even the slightest faults as fearful. By being without deceit and deception, one should abide with superior intention in front of all sentient beings. The so-called superior intention is to be in accordance with one's own nature. The so-called being without deceit is to show non-artificial conduct in all actions. The so-called being without deception is to be free from hypocrisy. One should also generate the perception of a teacher towards all Bodhisattvas, and proclaim their true praises in the four directions, which is to praise the one from whom one has heard the Dharma. Because one does not desire the lesser vehicle, one should cause all those who ripen sentient beings to truly uphold the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, which is to think of ripening them with things that gather the supreme benefit. The order of those is: by deceiving the teacher and others, one is disrespectful to the teacher and others; by not respecting the training, one has no regret; by harming others who have no regret, one causes them to regret with a mind of torment. Because of having no regret, one speaks unpraiseworthy words to sentient beings who have truly entered the Great Vehicle. By being angry with Bodhisattvas, one turns away from benefiting others, which arises from the mind of enlightenment.
