Because the Blessed One has said that for sentient beings, there is nothing higher than entering into the state of cessation of perception and feeling. Or, this has another meaning: those who have not accumulated roots of virtue cannot have faith, because they do not possess the accumulation of merit and wisdom, so they are those who have extremely heavy defilements. Those who are completely controlled by evil friends cannot have faith, this refers to those who are not completely controlled by noble beings, and therefore become extremely wicked. Those who are faithless and have many wrong views cannot have faith, this refers to those who do not possess the accumulation of wisdom and do not have faith in the profound Dharma. 'Do not enter' is a term of the teaching. 'Do not think' is because the wisdom of the abiding Dharma is not realized. 'Do not have faith' is because there is no certainty from merely understanding the surface. The methods of taming by the Tathagata can be viewed in two ways: the emanation manifests a nature similar to that of the arrogant, and through similar faith, it shows similarity in order to guide them to bring their minds closer to the Buddha's teachings; the teaching is definitive, therefore it reveals the method of complete purification. The teaching can also be understood in four ways: revealing the place where fear arises for both purification and affliction; revealing the complete abandonment of the root of affliction; revealing the complete abandonment of the root of fear for purification; and revealing the method of abiding in supreme bliss in this life. Among them, for sentient beings, what is complete nirvana? And what Dharma leads to complete nirvana? If there is a self in the body, does this mean that in order to refute the view of self, revealing the place where fear arises for both purification and affliction, thereby leading to selflessness? If affliction arises from fear, this is the first case. The two emanations said: Therefore, sentient beings, do not think, do not conceptually think. This reveals the two roots of affliction. Regarding the nature of conventional terms, completely clinging to the nature of affliction.

I said, because of following the thought that can contemplate. I said, because of following the pervasive contemplation that manifestly clings to the distinctions of its merits and faults, do not contemplate. This is the second kind. Venerable ones, not contemplating, not pervasively contemplating in that place, from there extensively, that is bound by its perception, up to this point is purified. In brief, it should be known as two kinds, namely the path of purification and nirvana. It should be known that the basis for fear is the path of purification. Venerable ones, keeping precepts, etc., do not turn back and do not completely escape from suffering, because the suchness of keeping precepts, etc., is extremely pure, if contemplating as all afflictions in the past and future, and contemplating as being free from all afflictions is unreasonable, then by contemplating that path of purification as all afflictions and being free from all afflictions, one fears the path of purification. In two ways, it should be known that the basis for fear is the purification of nirvana. Venerable ones, for example, abandon the thought of nirvana, this is because of manifestly clinging to the nature of nominal terms. Do not make thought into thought, this is because what is called nirvana is a verbal thought, taken as a thought arising from the mind. Do not completely know thought with thought, this is because with the thought arising from the mind, it is pacified, and it is completely known with the verbal thought. If these two kinds of bases are absent, then there will be no fear of nirvana. This should be known as the third kind. Completely abandoning those two bases, it should be known as showing the means to abide in the supreme. Venerable ones, enter into the meditative absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling. Venerable ones, if one enters into the cessation of perception and feeling, then there is nothing to do above that, as it is said. Completely abandoning those two bases, also completely abandoning the basis of all afflictions, and completely abandoning the basis of fearing purification. This is
