The mind and the appearance of superior wisdom are similar, but the intention to accomplish them is different. What is a virtuous practitioner who observes rituals and pretends? Some virtuous practitioners consider rituals as the field of practice, and practice as perfect. The perfection of rituals, livelihood, and conduct resembles the appearance of superior morality. In the four postures, knowingly eating bad food and drink, the four noble lineages are content with this. It is different from householders and renunciants, from "knowingly acting" to "different," resembling the appearance of a superior mind. Speaking little, and saying little, with little speech and little saying, resembling the appearance of superior wisdom. Their conduct is also pretentious, and thoroughly examined with cunning, not for the sake of purifying the mind completely, not for taming, not for pacifying, but for looking at the object of focus, clinging to self, dwelling on what is clung to as self, regarding the dharmas that do not focus on emptiness as a precipice. Regarding the virtuous practitioners who speak of emptiness as enemies. This is the different intention of accomplishing superior wisdom with pretense and so on. Thirdly, the virtuous practitioner whose speech is composed of verses is to be known as being attached to sound, resembling the limbs of tranquility, resembling the limbs of vipassanā, resembling the limbs of meditating on both, resembling the limbs of the collection of both, but the intention is different. What is the virtuous practitioner whose speech is composed of verses? Thinking, "How can I be known by others as having morality?" Thus, observing and guarding morality with discernment. Morality is the cause of samādhi, so morality resembles the limb of tranquility. Thinking, "How can I be known by others as having heard much?" Thus, holding onto much hearing with discernment. Much hearing generates uncontaminated wisdom, so much hearing resembles the limb of vipassanā. Thinking, "How can I be known by others as dwelling in solitude?" Thus, holding onto much hearing with discernment. Dwelling in solitude is the cause of meditation, so solitude resembles the limb of meditating on both.

O! Having examined individually, being content with few desires and becoming extremely solitary, that is to say, having few desires and so on is because it becomes its companion, having few desires and so on is like a branch of the companion of those two. How much is for showing closeness to others, not for being disgusted, not for being detached from desire, not for ceasing, not for being pacified, not for perfect enlightenment, not for the sake of a renunciate, not for the sake of pure conduct, that is to say, showing closeness to others and so on should be understood as having different intentions, this is the renunciate expressed in verses. What is a well-trained renunciate? It should be understood as four types: application and intention, as well as superior understanding and ultimate conclusion. Among them, what is the renunciate who practices correctly? Light protector, if even the body and life are not cared for, then what need is there to mention attainment and respect and verses, this refers to not caring for the body and life, thereby applying weariness to this life. Rejoicing upon hearing the teachings of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, this refers to rejoicing upon hearing emptiness and so on, because the continuum of previous lives is fully matured, therefore it is application, this should be understood as perfect application. Entering into suchness, this is because of having the intention of believing in the selflessness of phenomena. Nirvana is also practicing pure conduct without desire, when practicing, what need is there to mention being delighted in the three realms? Viewing emptiness is also without desire, then what need is there to mention the views of self, sentient being, life, nourishment, and person, this refers to not having desire for Nirvana, not having desire for emptiness, therefore there is no attachment to both what is to be attained and by what it is attained, which is the nature of conventionality. Following for the sake of meaning, not following for the sake of letters, this refers to seeking the meaning of the intention. Liberation from afflictions, seeking within, not running outside, this refers to not following the mere surface of words, this is
