In order to completely abandon the distinction of self-grasping, taking the example of plums treated as treasures, Bodhisattvas aim to attain the fruit of omniscience. In order to completely abandon the distinction of not generating suffering, taking the example of polishing a precious Vaidurya gem, the abode of the qualities of Sravakas, such as attaining mastery over the mind, is the Bodhisattva. Thus, these examples briefly show that Bodhisattvas are superior to Sravakas. From here onwards, it will be explained extensively. What is a Sravaka? What is the difference between the training of a Sravaka and the training of a Bodhisattva? There are four types of Sravakas. The difference between the training of a Sravaka and the training of a Bodhisattva should be understood through thirteen aspects: Emanation Sravakas, Sravakas with Arrogance, those who turn towards Bodhi, and those who solely proceed to Peace. Among these, Emanation Sravakas are those emanated by Bodhisattvas or Tathagatas in order to tame sentient beings. Among these, Sravakas with Arrogance are those who hold as true the wisdom that falsely clings to the wisdom of the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. Among these, those who turn towards Bodhi are those whose seed of compassion has been very small from beginningless time. Because they are close to the Tathagatas, they become accustomed to perceiving the vast Dharma of the Buddhas as qualities, and eventually, the Buddhas truly encourage, guide, and show the means to those who abide in the uncontaminated realm. Because of this cause, they manifest great Bodhi. Although they manifest great Bodhi in this way, they are particularly fond of peace, and therefore they are very attached to engaging in that practice. Such a person is not a Buddha-nature who has generated the first thought. Among these, those who solely proceed to Peace are those whose seed of compassion has been very small from the very beginning, who have completely turned their backs on the benefit of sentient beings, and who, because they fear suffering, have the intention of abiding in Nirvana.

It is a transformation, that is, there is no opportunity to realize great Bodhi. For example, just as two sons of a king are born from a similar place of birth, and equally enjoy the happiness of the king, one of them is proficient in the king's scriptures, crafts, and skillful arts, while the other is not. Then, these two are distinguished by these branches, not by the enjoyment of the king's happiness. Similarly, in the realm of the uncontaminated, one should distinguish between Bodhisattvas and Shravakas who proceed to peace. The difference between these two should be understood in thirteen ways: by understanding from intention, by perfecting white Dharma, by perfecting wisdom, by following, by holding in lineage and all lineages, by union, by power, by accomplishment, and also by being more excellent than the excellent ones, by cause and effect, and by relying on birth. Light Protector, for example, just as it is said that seeds do not grow from the sky, lotuses do not grow from dry wilderness, and lotuses grow from muddy swamps with fertilizer, these metaphors show the difference in the intention of Shravakas who proceed to peace and Bodhisattvas. Shravakas who proceed to peace, like land filled with fertilizer, turn away from contaminated conditioned phenomena, like muddy swamps with fertilizer, from sentient beings with afflictions, and have the intention to be solely pacified in the realm of Nirvana, which is like the sky, and the pure realm of sentient beings, which is like a dry wilderness. The opposite of this is the Bodhisattva's intention not to enter Nirvana, and the intention to abide in pure sentient beings, just as for the sake of liberating all afflicted sentient beings, they completely hold onto contaminated conditioned phenomena and sentient beings. The metaphors of water droplets and butter show the difference in perfecting white Dharma. Shravakas have small white Dharma because they nourish themselves, while Bodhisattvas have immeasurable white Dharma, sentient beings

Benefiting all and generating happiness. For example, just as parents nourish their children with butter, bodhisattvas, like butter, generate the first-time bodhisattvas and others with their immeasurable roots of virtue. The two examples of mustard seeds and space show the difference in truly accomplishing wisdom. Shravakas, with their unconditioned wisdom, accumulate and augment themselves with afflictions. Bodhisattvas, with compassion for all sentient beings in the ten directions, dedicate themselves entirely to the wisdom of enlightenment. The examples of a noble queen and a servant girl show the difference in following. Shravakas, with a mother like a noble queen of supreme liberation, and a father like a poor man who focuses on small goals, do not become sons of the Buddha because they are not truly accomplished. Bodhisattvas, with a mother like a servant girl who is naturally lowly, and a father like a king who focuses on vast goals, are sons of the Buddha because they are truly accomplished. The first example of the wheel-turning king shows the difference in lineage. Just as a wheel-turning king's son has perfect strength, perfect swift power, and perfect ability, but cannot attain the position of a wheel-turning king because he does not possess the signs of a wheel-turning king. Similarly, shravakas, even with perfect strength from diligent effort, perfect swift power from skill in happiness, and perfect ability from equanimity of mind, are not accepted as such by the Buddhas because they do not possess the signs of the Buddha's lineage. Bodhisattvas are the opposite of that. The second example of the wheel-turning king shows the difference in embracing lineage. Shravakas, even if they reach the end, will not be able to embrace the Buddha's lineage in the future. Bodhisattvas cannot do it even in the moment of generating the first thought. The third example of the wheel-turning king shows the difference in action. Shravakas, because they are at the end, their faculties are mature, but they cannot accomplish the deeds of the Buddha in the future.
