So it is. Regarding the tenets of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, to counteract the clinging to permanence in the aggregates and so forth, and the clinging to selflessness, it is taught that one does not individually contemplate impermanence in form and so forth. Since clinging to impermanence is the cause of clinging to selflessness, by preventing clinging to impermanence, it should be understood that clinging to selflessness is also prevented. Having shown that conceptual thought regarding the object of grasping is an extreme, it is extensively stated, "Kasyapa, right mindfulness is the only extreme," thus showing that conceptual thought regarding the object of clinging is itself an extreme. Among these, right mindfulness is that which possesses the previously stated conceptual thoughts of impermanence and selflessness. Non-right mindfulness is that which conceptually thinks of permanence and self. That which is called "without mind" is the place where karma manifestly operates. That which is called "without mind" is the very manifestation of karma. That which is called "without intention" is that which is completely subdued by that which arises from mind. That which is called "without consciousness" is its completely ripened result. Virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas are non-ignorance and being greatly associated with ignorance. These themselves are undesirable results, and the opposite of these, desirable results, including speech that is with fault and without fault. Without fault is mundane and supramundane. Mundane is with outflows. Supramundane is without outflows. Without outflows is conditioned and unconditioned. Among these, the black side is completely afflicted. The white side is completely purified. Therefore, from the two extremes of right mindfulness and non-right mindfulness, and the dharmas that are greatly associated with them, from virtuous and non-virtuous, up to completely afflicted and completely purified, not accepting, not speaking, not uttering these two extremes, that is the Kasyapa Middle Way, which is to rightly discriminate dharmas. Not accepting is that view. Not speaking is that the self is unspeakable. Not uttering is not speaking even when asked by others. In another way, virtuous and non-

The so-called 'virtuous dharmas' are the teachings. The remaining words below should be understood as explanations. After explaining the Middle Way as the antidote to the extreme views of non-Buddhists and Śrāvakas, it shows the antidote to the extreme views of Bodhisattvas. Among them, where does the non-Buddhists' superimposition of 'self' and 'permanence' come from? It is like a blind person seeing something, there is no need to explain. For those who combine the view of no-self with individuals of the Śrāvaka and Pratyekabuddha vehicles, they focus only on actions, thinking that actions are impermanent and without self. Before seeing the no-self of dharmas, staying on actions, they will develop attachment to impermanence and no-self. Bodhisattvas who combine with the view of no-self of dharmas will generate superimpositions before thoroughly understanding the no-self of dharmas, therefore, the antidote is shown in terms of the three types of superimpositions. Regarding superimposing on one's own nature with existence and non-existence, the so-called 'existence' is one extreme. 'Non-existence' is the second extreme, because it was said so. Regarding superimposing ignorance and wisdom as incompatible aspects and antidotes, because it is said from 'with ignorance as the condition, actions arise' to 'when ignorance ceases, actions cease' and so on. Regarding superimposing the remaining limbs and their cessation as conditioned and unconditioned, with words such as 'actions' and 'cessation of actions' and so on. As their antidote, 'not those two' is the completely imputed nature. The so-called 'no distinction in two aspects' means that neither is ignorance produced, nor is ignorance extinguished, actions and so on should neither be abandoned, nor should cessation be attained, because it is the completely imputed nature. The so-called 'here, what is knowledge' is to avoid the extreme of defamation, it is neither without wisdom, nor with wisdom and so on. The so-called 'not making dharmas empty with emptiness, not making dharmas without characteristics with no characteristics' and so on, what does it show? The so-called emptiness and so on, this wisdom...
