Therefore, for the benefit of sentient beings, it shows the cause of creating, fully maturing, and ultimately going to the root of goodness. Light Guardian, for example, just as the waxing moon gradually grows and becomes full, so too, a Bodhisattva with a pure mind will grow and become complete through all virtuous dharmas. This fifth example shows that, starting from one's own benefit, the collection of Bodhi will increase. Light Guardian, for example, just as a ray of sunlight illuminates all sentient beings, so too, Light Guardian, a ray of wisdom from a Bodhisattva illuminates all sentient beings with wisdom. This sixth example shows that by illuminating oneself and others with wisdom, it becomes the cause of accomplishing the benefit of both. Light Guardian, for example, just as a lion, the king of beasts, goes everywhere without fear, so too, Light Guardian, a Bodhisattva who abides in discipline and training, and in the qualities of practice and reducing possessions, goes everywhere without fear. This seventh example shows that because they do not fear samsara and nirvana, they do not abide in either. Light Guardian, for example, just as a very docile cotton elephant carries all burdens without getting tired, so too, Light Guardian, a very docile mind, also for the benefit of all sentient beings, carries the burden of the five aggregates without getting tired. This eighth example shows that one does not get tired of burdens in samsara. Light Guardian, for example, just as a lotus grows from water but is not stained by water, so too, Light Guardian, a Bodhisattva, although born in the world, is not stained by the dharmas of the world. This ninth example shows that there is no complete affliction in samsara. Light Guardian, for example, just as trees, even if their branches are cut off, will grow again if the roots are not damaged, so too, Light Guardian, a Bodhisattva who is skilled in means, even if afflictions are cut off, if the root of goodness is not damaged, then

Furthermore, the tenth example states how one does not completely pass beyond sorrow, even without all afflictions. O Light Protector, just as when a mass of water from great rivers flows into the great ocean from various directions and intermediate directions, all the salty taste becomes one taste, so too, O Light Protector, the roots of virtue accumulated by Bodhisattvas from various doors, dedicated to enlightenment, also become one taste, the taste of omniscience. The eleventh example shows that the roots of virtue are fully grasped by the application of dedication, thus becoming the cause of enlightenment. O Light Protector, just as the retinue of the Four Great Kings and the gods of the Thirty-three reside on Mount Meru, so too, O Light Protector, the omniscience of the Bodhisattva is seen to reside in the roots of virtue of the mind of enlightenment. The twelfth example shows the complete abandonment of passing beyond sorrow in accordance with the Hearers, for they pass beyond sorrow easily from their own aspirations and roots of virtue. Although Bodhisattvas completely pass beyond sorrow, they do not abandon their own aspirations, and it is shown that they also obtain the application of the roots of virtue. O Light Protector, just as kings who are fully possessed by ministers perform all the affairs of the kingdom, so too, O Light Protector, Bodhisattvas who are possessed by wisdom and means also perform all the deeds of the Buddhas. The thirteenth example shows how those who have completely passed beyond sorrow perform the deeds of sentient beings. O Light Protector, just as a stream of rain from a great cloud manifestly falls upon all crops, so too, O Light Protector, the rain of the Bodhisattva's supreme Dharma, which arises from the cloud of the Bodhisattva's great compassion and extensive learning of the Dharma, manifestly falls upon all sentient beings. The fourteenth example states, O Light Protector, just as the seven jewels appear wherever a wheel-turning king appears, so too, O Light Protector, wherever a Bodhisattva appears, the thirty-seven

That. The fifteenth example, "Pure Arising," explains what is not always shown, and that which does not arise but abides in time. Light Guardian, for example, just as wherever the precious gem Vaidūrya arises, it becomes a place where a hundred thousand Kārṣāpaṇas arise. Light Guardian, wherever a Bodhisattva arises, it becomes a place where hundreds of thousands of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas arise. The sixteenth example shows the fault of complete Nirvāṇa corresponding to Śrāvakas, etc., and shows that Śrāvakas, etc., themselves do not arise. Light Guardian, for example, just as the enjoyment and use of those who enter the mixed grove of the Thirty-Three Gods abide equally, Light Guardian, the pure intention of a Bodhisattva is also truly bestowed upon all sentient beings. The seventeenth example shows that Śrāvakas, etc., do not have that ability, because with the difference of the realization of Dharma, the Bodhisattva's equality of self and others truly bestows upon all sentient beings. Light Guardian, for example, just as one who is completely seized by mantras and medicine cannot be killed by poison, Light Guardian, a Bodhisattva who is completely seized by skill in wisdom and means cannot be killed by the poison of afflictions. The eighteenth example, Light Guardian, for example, just as the manure of a large city is more beneficial than fields of sugarcane and fields of decoration, Light Guardian, the manure of a Bodhisattva's afflictions is also beneficial for omniscience. The nineteenth example shows that even if a Bodhisattva has not exhausted afflictions, he is more excellent than Śrāvakas, etc., because his afflictions do not become faults, and he accomplishes great qualities. The order of these examples should be understood as the latter being more distinct than the former. How is that? It is said: From the time a Bodhisattva generates the first mind, in the beginning, middle, and end, it is the root of virtue for all sentient beings.
