Hope, because one does not look to one's own happiness, therefore there is no strong desire for fruition, this is its concluding statement. Said: Is it not the case that giving with a view to fully maturing sentient beings shows that one does not hope for the ripening result? Why is it repeated that one does not hope for the ripening result? Said: It is possible that even giving with a view to fully maturing sentient beings may hope for the ripening result. There will be no fault in explaining it separately. For example, having generated the mind for enlightenment and focusing on all sentient beings, giving with a view to fully maturing sentient beings is a great fruit in samsara, because ultimately one can also attain omniscience, this method is a great fruit, thinking in this way, for the giving that is directed towards sentient beings, one should also truly understand with wisdom and prevent it, and in order to incorporate the true qualities of the Bodhisattva, it is said that one does not hope for the ripening result. That is to say, the Bodhisattva who possesses excellent intention, without regard to his own happiness, does not hope that the dharmas such as giving will ripen in his own continuum. Why? Because one does not look to cause and effect, but rather for the benefit of other beings, one completely dedicates the roots of virtue to the accomplishment of Buddhahood. This is what one thinks, if it is possible, one will cultivate omniscience, even if one gives to each sentient being, then the nature of these dharmas will accomplish fruition in one's own mind, however, my omniscience is for the benefit of other beings, because this method is able to benefit others. Thus, in order to purify the intention of that Bodhisattva, whatever dharmas such as giving that cause the attainment of omniscience, and the fruition related to omniscience, such as the ten powers, are all directed towards benefiting others with the intention of benefiting others. Therefore, this is different from the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, so it is called the true quality of the Bodhisattva, which is this.

Just as the giving of the accumulations of the path of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is giving in order to fully ripen the continuum. In contrast to this, outsiders desire results. As an antidote to wrong practice, relying on correct practice, one should understand the four sets of four in terms of the four good qualities. What are the four good qualities? They are being wealthy in order to find a great treasure, being without opponents in order to completely overcome the maras, having no expectation of ever obtaining enjoyment by dwelling in solitude without pretense, and having an inexhaustible accumulation of merit due to immeasurable accumulations of merit. The order of these good qualities is that initially, merely finding a treasure accumulates the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Not harming the appearance of a Buddha in that is accumulating the accumulation of merit. The remaining three are accumulating the accumulation of wisdom. Relying on accumulating the accumulation of merit, the second of the fourth (result) completely purifies obscurations in order to completely overcome the maras. Relying on completely purifying meditation, the third of the fourth (result) obtains white dharma from all doors in order to gather all virtuous dharmas. Relying on obtaining white dharma from all doors, the fourth of the fourth (result) engages in benefiting sentient beings in all aspects in order to obtain immeasurable merit. One should understand that immeasurable merit is generated. The four ways of finding a great treasure are: relying on an excellent individual, listening to the sacred Dharma, properly applying the mind, and practicing Dharma that accords with the Dharma. Among these, pleasing the Buddhas is relying on an excellent individual. Listening to the six perfections is listening to the sacred Dharma. Speaking the Dharma without anger is properly applying the mind. Being mindful and delighting in dwelling in solitude is practicing Dharma that accords with the Dharma. Among these, harming the appearance of a Buddha is making offerings and service to the Thus Gone One, thereby accumulating the accumulation of merit. The remaining three are that hearing is completely purified, sentient beings are completely purified, and meditation is completely purified, thereby being the accumulation of wisdom. Worldly wealth and possessions and
