And the mandala is also immeasurable. Similarly, he praises the bodies of other Buddhas and the perfect vessels. Then, having heard this, they think, "We are far behind, and there are Tathagatas who are so excellent and beautiful in every way," and thus they crush the mountain of pride and become vessels for generating wisdom and merit. Regret is remorse in the mind. After harming those who possess qualities and those who benefit us, how will we feel remorse in our hearts later? Just that pain of sorrow makes the mind uneasy and confused for a long time, the body trembles and lies like a corpse, abandoning virtuous deeds, lying on the ground, and having no interest even in the thoughts of one's own body. For those who are like that, their regret is an obscuration because it obstructs confession, restraint, and engagement in merit. The wise recognize that what we have done is not good, and afterwards they confess and restrain themselves, and exhaust the harm by becoming accustomed to the medicine of various kinds of roots of virtue, and for what has not been done, they strive not to do mindfulness, awareness, and listening to noble beings, and relying on them. In the Jataka Tales spoken by the noble Hero, it is also said: There is no way to recover from discouragement and decline. Therefore, one should abandon clinging to displeasure. Those who are skilled in accomplishing important matters overcome difficulties with patience, and can also pass through difficulties without joy. Therefore, having abandoned discouragement and displeasure, one should attend to distinguishing the occasions of things. Increasing the splendor of wisdom with patience is the supreme method of accomplishing all purposes. It is like this. Therefore, in order to counteract the fault of obstructing that long-lasting great regret, this supreme vehicle is taught. It is said that all those who harm the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will go to higher realms. This is said with regard to the thoughts of beings, because it is said with regard to the regret that arises from the thoughts of some beings who are paralyzed by the poison of extreme regret.

If asked, how does one get reborn in the heavens by causing harm? It is not called a being merely because of that (harm). However, repentance and so on arising from that cause will increase virtue, so one will be reborn. Furthermore, when harming those (beings), one will inevitably see, hear, remember, associate, and so on with them. And Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, on those bases, are meaningful. In the "Noble Revelation of the Appearance of the Tathagata in the World Sutra," it also says: 'Alas! Sons of the Victorious Ones, may the roots of virtue of seeing, hearing, remembering, touching, and associating with the Tathagata become meaningful.' It is like that. That is the nature of Dharma, so there is nothing to be done, and there is also benefit for those who cause harm. In the "Noble Essence of the Acala's Lasso Sutra," it says: For example, if someone uses sandalwood, saffron, camphor, or musk, crushes and hollows it out, and applies it to the body, the sandalwood and so on will not think: 'This person crushed me, I should not emit fragrance.' Because there is no conceptualization, the nature of Dharma will only emit fragrance. World Honored One, similarly, even if I angrily remember or utter the essence of Acala's Lasso, I will still protect, save, and conceal him.' It is like that. The World Honored One also previously cultivated himself in such a way with roots of virtue and aspirations, etc., 'You who have practiced well, by all means, make yourselves grow.' It is like that. Therefore, after its fruit is exhausted, at other times, by that very cause, one will go to the heavens. For example, some foods, when first eaten, cause dizziness, fatigue, fainting, vomiting, diarrhea, worms in the body, hair and body hair loss, tooth decay, nail growth, and so on, causing many kinds of suffering, but later, after a long time, they become nourishing food. Similarly, this is also said with that in mind. So, if that is the case, it will only become causing harm, like this.
