Explanation of the Second Verse: A Beautiful Arrangement. Explanation of the Second Verse. A Beautiful Arrangement. In Sanskrit: Gatha Dvaya Vyakhyaana. In Tibetan: Explanation of the Second Verse. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! If the mind is not equally settled, how can those who only see a limited view now greatly increase in the profound Mahayana? However, those who abide by their support and have previously become accustomed to virtue, through merit, will enable the worlds to attain omniscience. Disparaging the Buddha and the Dharma, laziness and contentment with little, desire and arrogant speculation, regret and uncertainty, these are the obscurations of sentient beings. To counteract these, the supreme Mahayana is taught. By this, those who create obstacles will have all their faults completely abandoned. These two verses, regarding the contradictions between the Mahayana sutras, also through four intentions, to abandon the eight types of obscurations of sentient beings, by showing the antidote with flexible intentions, therefore, it should be understood as not contradictory. Among them, the Bhagavan, in the sutra, praises the complete life of the Buddha, such as the Noble All-Seeing One, in order to generate aspiration. However, some people generate a mind of contempt for the Holy Shakyamuni, thinking that other Tathagatas are renowned as supremely great because of their complete merit, while our Tathagata is renowned as small because of his small merit. For example, this Buddha is small in stature, short in life, and his light is only a fathom. He has many enemies, such as many heretics and Devadatta. Moreover, this field is full of cliffs, unclean, and filled with rubble, pebbles, stones, and mountains. Thinking this way is also an obscuration. For the great field of merit, like a wish-fulfilling jewel of the world, one should generate faith in the supreme place of refuge. Even generating a small evil thought will become a cause for falling into the lower realms, and if one does not act according to his teachings, it will become an obstacle to attaining higher realms and liberation. Therefore, one should abandon the fault of obstructing sentient beings from disparaging the Buddha.

In order to establish it on the ground, the Tathagata, out of compassion, taught this supreme vehicle, that is, at that time, at that moment, I myself, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, was called 'Sarvārthadarśin,' like that cause. That was spoken with consideration for equality. Thus, the Dharmakaya is the very nature of complete purity from all obscurations, endowed with infinite qualities such as power, fearlessness, direct knowledge, and immeasurability. Because of this equality, all Buddhas themselves have no difference whatsoever. Also, in the Vinaya Sutra, it is said: "With the Sangha and the Dharmakaya, and with the conduct of benefiting beings, all Buddhas are equal, not in lifespan, lineage, or stature." Thus it is said. As for what is called 'disparaging the Dharma,' the Dharma is the twelve branches of scripture. Some disparage it, thinking it is common with women and ordinary people, extremely easy, wrongly explained, slandering karma and its results, combined with conceptual thought, evil people manifestly rejoice, thinking, 'What need is there for this which is easily obtained?' That too is an obscuration. Like the king of medicine, it shows the means of completely pacifying all such things as desire, and in order to exhaust all the afflictive diseases of all beings, disparaging the one who dwells nearby is the cause of falling into the lower realms, and not listening, etc., and because not relying on it becomes an obstacle to the supreme state of being without disease. Therefore, in order to avert the fault of interruption, this supreme vehicle is taught. It is said, for example, that if one serves and reveres as many Tathagatas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, knowledge of the Mahayana will arise. If that is so, then is it not the case that even those who have heard much at present do not understand, and that the signs of serving and revering one Buddha are not present in these, so is it not contradictory? The answer is that it was also spoken with consideration for another meaning, it was spoken with consideration for another meaning, that of realizing the undefiled wisdom of ultimate truth, and also that it is only after pleasing many Buddhas appearing for one countless eon that the stage of the Ground of Utter Joy arises, so there is no contradiction. What is called laziness is not indulging in desires, worldly activities.
