To cling to things and self as real is the root of all fears. If one sees the truth in this, then clinging to all things will cease. Therefore, if one cultivates this in a true manner, all fears will be cut off from the root. So cultivate in this way! Even if one sees dependent arising as true, if later one encounters bad friends and cultivates improper attention, it will become the cause of afflictions such as desire, and become the cause of fear. To this, it is said "unseizable," meaning that seeing the truth cannot be deceived by anyone, therefore it will not be seized. If someone thinks that even if one only sees the truth, no one can deceive, but if one always acts in a reversed manner, one will still be seized. To this, it is said "non-peaceful nature," meaning that the nature in which afflictions are pacified by the power of antidotes is called "non-peaceful nature," which means having a peaceful nature, and the words should be combined in this way. What kind of non-peaceful nature is it? It is the non-peaceful nature, meaning that for this nature, it is not necessary to pacify the reversed nature through the power of antidotes, because the nature is naturally clear and luminous, and from the Dharmadhatu, reversal has not arisen from the beginning, this is what is to be shown. As it is said in the sutra, no dharma is created by ordinary beings, nor is it prevented by the Buddhas. It is only to see the truth as it is, and for this, there is nothing to be established or clarified. As it is said in the sutra, from entering the two noble truths, just as the poison of being bitten by a snake in a dream is pacified, so too will afflictions be pacified. Therefore, if one becomes accustomed to the truth, one will realize the Dharmadhatu of naturally clear light, because there is no seed of error. Abiding in the truth itself, there is no opportunity for sudden afflictions to arise. Some say that there is also the saying "nature with peace," meaning that ignorance and so on are naturally from the beginning.

From the perspective of the nature of peace, it is completely peaceful and possessed of peace. Because the nature is together with complete peace, the term "having the nature of complete peace" is thus combined. Whoever sees this kind of dependent arising sees the Dharma of attainment and the Dharma of fruition as spoken of, because all are of one taste in the ultimate sense. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is also of the nature of the Dharmakaya, which is the ultimate truth as spoken of. Therefore, whoever sees the Dharma as spoken of sees the Buddha, it is said, and this is connected to the Bhagavan. Why does he see it that way? The Bhagavan said that because he has realized the noble Dharma here and possesses true wisdom, he has stated this reason. This is the reason for seeing it here. Whoever understands the dependent arising as spoken of has realized the noble Dharma, which is to say, has understood the ultimate Dharma. Whoever understands the ultimate Dharma possesses true wisdom. Whoever possesses true wisdom has no perception of difference in dependent arising, Dharma, and Buddhas because the wisdom of equality abides. Therefore, if one realizes the noble Dharma, because one possesses true wisdom, the yogi, if he sees the dependent arising as spoken of, sees the Dharma and the Buddha, as the Bhagavan said. Therefore, the Bhagavan said to consider equality and to flexibly consider the nature of the perfectly established, so that there is no contradiction to the Bhagavan's teachings. If this dependent arising is not truly compounded by causes and conditions, then why is it called dependent arising? If one thinks this way, then in order to show the cultivation of dependent arising on the conventional level, it is said to be called dependent arising. Here, the answer is that it refers to that which has causes and conditions, not to that which is without causes and conditions.

That was said. Thinking to myself: In terms of the ultimate truth, this dependent arising is unborn. However, in conventional truth, like illusions and reflections, it depends on various definite causes and conditions, and thus has a designated name. Therefore, all establishments in scriptures and the world are not contradictory. Although that is so, how do non-Buddhists conventionally conceive of this as having no cause, and as having characteristics such as dissimilar causes? Because it is not like that, in order to refute all the views of non-Buddhists, five characteristics are established for this: the characteristic of arising from causes, the characteristic of arising from many impermanent causes, the characteristic of arising without self, the characteristic of arising from empowering conditions, and the characteristic of arising from non-agent conditions. Among these, the phrase 'having causes and having conditions' indicates the first characteristic, which refutes the view of having no cause. Someone might think: Even if it has causes, how can it be a condition without results? To this, 'in short' is said, meaning that whatever is the condition, it is called 'this condition,' and its essence is this condition itself. Whoever causes whose result to be included within it, that is the result of that condition. This means that if this condition exists, this result will arise. That is all, and it is intended to be expressed as the sound of dependent arising. To this, establishing sounds can be exhausted at will, but in reality there is no contradiction. Someone might think: Why should I say that this has causes? To this, 'even if it arises' and so on are said. The phrase 'this Dharma nature' refers to the Dharma nature of dependent arising. The phrase 'Dharma abidingness' and so on belong to synonyms. Some people, in order to benefit all the near-abiding ones who can understand the meaning, therefore proclaim synonyms. Abiding is merely abidingness, that is all, it is abiding in abiding. The phrase 'Dharma determinateness' means unchanging, and is a synonym for 'depending on individually determined causes.'
