It is said that in order to attain the pure nature of transcendence, the practice of the characteristics of cultivating the noble path will become meaningless. For example, regarding "examining one's own nature," it is to conceive that emptiness and so on have become substantial by their own nature. Or, for all phenomena such as illusion, the very absence of the self-nature of the person and phenomena that are imputed is the nature of emptiness itself. That itself is the meaning of non-otherness, therefore it is suchness. Because it is the meaning of non-perversion, it is the ultimate reality. Because it is free from all characteristics, it is without characteristics. Because it is the object of the noble wisdom of non-conceptualization, it is the ultimate truth. Because it is the cause of all the Buddha's teachings, it is the realm of dharma. Therefore, thinking that these have become substantial, that they exist, in this way, contemplating the individual characteristics of emptiness and so on is also engaging in characteristics. "Engaging in qualities" means thinking that by meditating on these, all qualities including the Buddha's teachings will arise. "Examining the essence is also permissible" means thinking that because it is of an unfailing nature, it is unchanging, completely established, because it is of a completely established nature, therefore it has not been refuted by measurement at all times, because it is truly established by measurement, and all the Dharmakaya of all Buddhas is also thoroughly distinguished by it. "Completely abandoning by not paying attention" means contemplating the nature of existence and non-existence, and so on. In this way, they are merely the characteristics of the selflessness of persons and phenomena, therefore they do not exist as substantial entities, and for all phenomena such as illusion, because they are free from the self-nature imputed as persons and phenomena, they can be established as the nature of phenomena, so they are not non-existent like a rabbit's horn. If one understands in this way, one should abandon the conceptualizations of its nature and so on.

Although ultimate reality, such as emptiness, is devoid of inherent existence, the inherent existence and other things obtained from meditating on these are indeed existent because they have become the result. If one thinks, 'Otherwise, how would bodhisattvas enter the stages and so forth?' then the yogi should abandon this conceptual thought as well, because the stages and so forth are also unborn in ultimate reality. Obtaining forbearance of the unborn dharma, being prophesied, and obtaining a pure Buddha-field are the bodhisattvas who abide on the eighth ground. Ripening sentient beings and obtaining empowerment are those who abide on the two grounds above that, that is, in order. These grounds are superior to other grounds that are not those grounds because they possess distinctions of qualities such as entering into spontaneous accomplishment, and therefore other specific characteristics of conceptual thought are taught. These appearances of conceptual thought regarding the grounds and so forth are only for yogis who are beginners; they are not for those who abide on the grounds, because it is impossible for them. For example, 'examining one's own characteristics' means thinking that the stages and so forth, which have become objects of their own characteristics, are existent, or thinking about these individual characteristics themselves. Among these, the bodhisattva of the first ground, because he has entered into the faultless, is established as the antidote to delusion about persons and phenomena. The second ground, because of pure morality, is the antidote to delusion about subtle transgressions. The third ground, because he has obtained the power to abide in worldly meditative absorption, is the antidote to attachment to desire. The fourth ground, because he abides greatly in how to obtain the aspects of enlightenment, is the antidote to craving for the dharmas of meditative absorption. The fifth ground, because he abides in the aspects of enlightenment that are grasped by skillful means, meditates on the truths, and the bodhisattva's intention to turn away from and turn towards samsara and nirvana is the antidote to delusion. The sixth ground is the antidote to abiding in signlessness, practicing signlessness in many ways, and the wheel
