What is being said? The suffering of formation is subtle, for those who do not know at all, arrogance manifests as "I know completely," or for those who know completely, arrogance manifests as "I do not know at all," this is its definition. Because arising from causes and conditions, and being related to birth and death in these two ways, beginninglessness exists, therefore it is said. What is this showing? Ignorance makes sentient beings completely ignorant of the object of focus, and it also brings about the cause for the manifestation of formations. If this is the case, entering into samsara in this way of karma and afflictions, then liberation from that should not be sought primarily from karma, because ignorance is close to two functions, from this beginning, to death also being close to two functions, what is being said? Different from this, the proponents of Ishvara believe that liberation is realized from Ishvara, thinking that by pleasing him, sentient beings will be liberated from the density of samsara. To counter this, it is said, "arising from the cause of its own kind," what is this showing? Ignorance and so on, those arise from causes that are in accordance with their own kind, not that by making it extremely pleased, the limbs of existence such as ignorance will not arise, not that they arise from the extreme wrath of Ishvara. Regarding this, "conditioned by ignorance, there are formations" means that because of ignorance, formations are uninterrupted and dependent, from this beginning, to "because there is no cause for birth, old age and death are close to pacification, and there is no dependence," what is being said? Different from this, the naked ascetics completely seek liberation through severe asceticism, to counter this, it is said, "because it arises from the cause of the afflictions and the pervasive afflictions of karma, it does not arise from the cause of happiness." What is this showing? For example, asceticism is the severe suffering of pulling out hair, sitting naked, not bathing, and so on. Therefore,

If it is certain to come into the prison of samsara, then, if liberation from the prison of samsara can be achieved through severe asceticism, then, because karma and afflictions wander in samsara, therefore severe asceticism is not liberation. Because ignorance, craving, and grasping are the continuous path of afflictions, and action and existence are the continuous path of karma, and the rest are the continuous path of suffering, as it is said. Other than that, the nihilists of the world seek liberation because of no cause. For example, things are destroyed only by their own nature, so there is no cause for the destruction of these things, nirvana. They clamor that life exists only in this life, and there is no afterlife. To counter them, it is said "between the beginning and the end" and so on. The end between is produced from the cause of the previous end, and the future end is produced from the cause of the end between. Here, the reason is stated: otherwise, sentient beings would not become diverse. The reason why sentient beings are diverse is because their nature is diverse. If there is no cause, it will not become like that, they think. From "actions arise from the condition of ignorance" to "similarly, when ignorance ceases, actions cease," this refers to the continuous cessation, as it is said. Seeking other liberation means only completely seeking other liberation. That liberation is also considered to be four types, starting from "liberation is" and so on, in order to separately show those four types of liberation. They are because they are related to the suffering of action itself, so they think that being related to the suffering of action itself is liberation. For example, for non-perception, there will be pride in liberation. For it, because it is related to the suffering of action itself, it will not be set as the characteristic of liberation, because what is said is: liberation is the characteristic of the complete pacification of all suffering. Starting from "actions arise from the condition of ignorance"
