The mind that generates joy, that is what is called (the name). The various writings of faults also use this word to indicate combination, so this word is a limb. The remaining words divide the faults into six types and distinguish these six faults. For example, when teaching the Dharma, there are afflictions that come with wealth, or afflictions that come from seeking quarrels. The word "or" means to summarize. The antidote to these two faults is the so-called "completely unafflicted mind," because there is no attachment or anger arising from the idea of generously giving wealth and seeking quarrels, so it is completely unafflicted. Giving, etc., and the merits of contentment with few desires, etc., and being content with wisdom, are faults. There are two statements to counteract these faults: that is, having a mind that constantly seeks higher realms, and having a mind that desires to manifest the excellence of wisdom. That is what is said. Weariness is a fault, and the antidote to it is "the mind that saves all beings," because for the benefit of sentient beings, one has long endured many hardships. Holding one's own view as the most supreme is a fault, and the antidote to it is "a mind that corresponds to respect for the guru," because one strives diligently to practice the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma. "Gratitude" is called a limb, because one thinks of repaying kindness in one's heart. Because one knows the kindness received, one must perceive the kindness. In order to protect one's mind, one must be firm. In order to accomplish the teachings that are in accordance with reality, one must be happy to associate with others. In order to tolerate the disturbance of faults, one must be upright. In order to tolerate the disputes caused by questions, one must be gentle. Because one does not hide one's own faults, one must act frankly. Because one does not speak of untrue merits, one must be honest and without deception. Because one does not become arrogant, one must be without pride. Because one can endure words, one must be broad-minded. Because one can understand correctly, one must be harmonious and consistent. Its fruit, the "upper ones," refers to the nature and appearance of completely eliminating the afflictions of afflictions. Its fruit, the "lower ones," refers to the nature of completely eliminating the afflictions of karma, etc., all of which are subdued.
