The term "that" indicates that meditation reveals the state of both of them. After that, "because of being separated from the attachment to joy" means that because the search and analysis have already been abandoned, it is said to be separated from anything that causes harm. "Abiding in equanimity" means that because the afflictions of the near-attainment are very subtle, it will not turn into aversion, this is what is to be shown. The phrase "because of being separated from the attachment to joy, abiding in equanimity" explains that the conflicting aspects in the third dhyana have declined. After that, "having mindfulness and awareness" means that because there is an antidote, it is known that it can be sought, this is explaining the benefit of cultivating the antidote. After that, "the body also experiences happiness" means that it is experienced by the mind-body, not by the form-body, because the form-body is the realm of the second dhyana, so it has been abandoned. This is explaining the benefit of cultivation. "The noble ones proclaim" is because there is an antidote. Why is it that the first and second dhyanas do not say "the noble ones proclaim"? Because those harms are coarse, they cannot be understood by the instruction of others. In the third dhyana, the mental effort of thinking "this is happiness" is said to be the affliction of the near-attainment, and this affliction of the near-attainment is also very subtle, and the happiness of the realm of the third dhyana is also supreme, so the meditator is like being drunk from drinking the wine of supreme happiness, knowing that he cannot truly understand himself, in order to enable them to understand, the noble ones proclaim. How do they proclaim? They proclaim the phrase "having mindfulness, abiding in happiness, is equanimity." After that, "cultivating the third dhyana and abiding" is explaining the state of both of them, which is samadhi. "Also abandoning happiness, also abandoning suffering" means abandoning the happiness of the third dhyana, and in that, the suffering that arises from inhalation and exhalation. Others say that the happiness of the third dhyana itself is suffering because of the suffering of change, and precisely because of that,

It is said that this was spoken to abandon suffering after abandoning pleasure. The phrase "since the mind's ease and unease have also subsided" indicates that the word "mind's ease" shows that joy has subsided from before. Because joy also completely transforms into unease, it is said that after the cessation of pleasure, unease also ceases. It is not that because the place of the mind has been abandoned, everything has been said to be abandoned before. Abandoning these two explains that the unfavorable aspect has diminished. The phrase "neither suffering nor pleasure" refers to showing the mind of the fourth dhyana, which explains the cultivation of the antidote. The phrase "completely purified by the mindfulness of equanimity" means that because there is no wavering, the mindfulness of entering into equanimity is completely purified. This explains the benefit of cultivation. The phrase "having cultivated and abiding in the fourth dhyana" refers to the state of samadhi, the abode of both. The phrase "having completely transcended all perceptions of form" means having completely transcended the perceptions that are in accordance with eye consciousness. The phrase "the perceptions of obstruction have ceased" means that the perceptions that are in accordance with ear, nose, tongue, and body have ceased. The phrase "not attending to various perceptions" means not attending to the perceptions that are in accordance with mind consciousness, because mind consciousness is what discriminates. This shows that the unfavorable aspect has diminished. Because one sees that phenomena such as form are selfless by way of analysis, one should know that whatever antidote completely transcends the perceptions of phenomena such as form is the cultivation of the antidote. The phrase "thinking that space is infinite" is the benefit of cultivation. Some say that this itself should be considered the cultivation of the antidote. The phrase "having cultivated and abiding in the sphere of infinite space" refers to the state of samadhi, the abode of both. Some say that this is both the benefit of cultivation and the abode. For others, it should be understood accordingly. Loving-kindness etc.
