It is an explanation. The so-called being separated from sinful and non-virtuous dharmas does not merely mean abandoning forms, etc., but refers to cutting off the actions of body, speech, and mind that arise from encountering these things and engaging in misconduct. Therefore, for the first dhyana, merely being separated from desire and sinful, non-virtuous dharmas completely shows the decline of unfavorable factors. The subsequent phrase "with vitarka and vicara" refers to the complete pacification of vitarka and vicara in the desire realm, and the continuous nature of vitarka and vicara in the form realm. Therefore, merely having vitarka and vicara is said to be the cultivation of antidotes. The subsequent phrase "born of separation" refers to the benefits born of separation from non-virtue. What are those benefits? The subsequent phrase says "having joy and bliss," wherein joy refers to the mind of absorption being extremely joyful. Bliss refers to the body and mind being free from suffering, and the continuum experiencing happiness in an externally capable manner. Joy and bliss are joy and bliss; joy and mental bliss refer to the benefits of cultivation. The subsequent phrase "cultivating and abiding in the first dhyana" refers to the dhyana explaining the samadhi, the state of both of these. It is a synonym for the place of cultivating antidotes and the place of the benefits of cultivation. Subsequently, "that which is without vitarka and vicara" refers to the abandonment of whatever vitarka and vicara disturb the mind in the realm of the first dhyana. Therefore, this is an explanation of the decline of unfavorable factors in the second dhyana. Subsequently, "inwardly completely pleased" refers to the fact that in the first dhyana, the practitioner, having separated from external harms and achieved a state of harmlessness, when the heart is filled with joy, the vitarka and vicara stirred by the laughter of joy prevent the mind from being completely clear. Therefore, abandoning vitarka and vicara, so that the mind stream is no longer disturbed, the mind can be clear, and therefore it is said that because of being separated from vitarka and vicara, the mind is completely clear. Subsequently, the mind's continuum one

The so-called "transformation" refers to the mind focusing on one object, and is a synonym for "because it runs on one meaning." Because the word "transformation" means running. In this way, because the inner mind is completely calm and the continuum of the mind becomes one, it is said that in the second dhyana, one should also practice antidotes. The so-called "no coarse thought, no subtle thought" means that in the second dhyana, coarse and subtle thoughts are impossible to exist. Although it has already been said "free from coarse and subtle thoughts," why is it still necessary to say "no coarse thought, no subtle thought"? Because for this first dhyana, although it is liberated from the coarse and subtle thoughts of the desire realm, it is still related to the differences of the coarse and subtle thoughts of the first dhyana ground. Therefore, some people may think like this: just as in the first dhyana, the aspects of the desire realm all cease, and the first dhyana ground arises, in the same way, in the second dhyana, the aspects of the first dhyana ground also cease, and other aspects of the second dhyana ground arise. Because one might think like this, in order to show that coarse and subtle thoughts are impossible to exist in the second dhyana, it is said "no coarse thought, no subtle thought." Also, just as in the second dhyana ground, the joy and happiness of the first dhyana ground cease, and other differences of the joy and happiness of the second dhyana ground arise, are coarse and subtle thoughts also similar to this? In order to eliminate this doubt, it is said "no coarse thought, no subtle thought." After that, the so-called "joy and happiness born from samadhi" is said in order to distinguish it from the differences of the joy and happiness of the first dhyana ground. How to distinguish? The first dhyana ground gives rise to joy and happiness that is far from harm, just like a person troubled by thieves, feeling uncomfortable and going to another place. The second dhyana ground gives rise to joy and happiness that is not disturbed by coarse and subtle thoughts, and the mind is equally at peace. Precisely because of this, the first dhyana is called "joy and happiness born from detachment," while the second dhyana is called "joy and happiness born from samadhi," which is explaining the benefits of practice. Practicing and abiding in the second dhyana
