The arising of coarse signs everywhere is its unfavorable aspect. Seventh, without abandoning that, the actions of body, speech, and mind enter into detachment from signs, and so on arise, in order to show practice in the absence of signs. The arising of subtle signs everywhere is an unfavorable aspect. Eighth, like a great ship going to the ocean, etc., it is said that even in practicing without signs, one is free from all effort, so manifest engagement is an unfavorable aspect. Ninth, because of obtaining individual perfect knowledge, not manifestly engaging for the benefit of sentient beings is its unfavorable aspect. Tenth, because all phenomena such as secrets appear, it is said that one has obtained power over all phenomena. Not having obtained that power is an unfavorable aspect. The definitive words of these grounds, and their functions, unfavorable aspects, and antidotal aspects, should be known from the Sutra Unraveling the Thought of the Holy One. Among them, such as the ten stages of dwelling in the womb. The outside forms a membrane, and the inside is moist and stays like butter, which is soft. Both inside and outside are slightly formed, but not yet the substance of flesh, which is blurry. Staying like mud is sticky. Becoming hard and able to withstand pressure is the hardening of flesh. Having flesh and the signs of limbs appearing is in accordance with the norm. Then, that which dwells in the womb, before it later becomes a human or an animal, etc., whatever it transforms into, the form of existence itself, that is in accordance with nature. That which transforms and turns, moving, is the state of the body together with karma. The state of the complete body is merely a distinction. The three great ones, etc., are cause, effect, and essence, in that order. O sons of the Victorious Ones, etc., what is this negation of "not seen"? It is said that all Buddhas do not speak of these ten Bodhisattva grounds in countless Buddha-fields. O sons of the Victorious Ones, it is said that the one who is purified from all sins is the Buddha, the Bhagavan.

Those are they. Thus it is said, the Blessed One said: To those who approach harming, Those who have attained the exhaustion of defilements, Know them to be like me, the Victorious One. By overcoming sinful dharmas, Therefore, approach the Victorious One. Thus it is said. Because of expanding, therefore a son. It is said: A son overcomes the world, A grandson obtains all joy, A great-grandson, in the heavenly realm, Becomes an object of offering. This, whatever is born from whatever, that is its lineage, thus the Victorious Ones are born from the path, therefore the path is called the lineage of the Victorious Ones. Bodhisattvas, with extremely diligent effort, those who desire this path also overcome its opposing factors, and expand the lineage of the Buddhas. Because it is without fault, it is called the sons born from the Dharma of the Victorious Ones. That, is called the teaching. Where, is called the explanation. There, what is called the spoken verses of the scriptures, etc., this is how it is shown. However, in these verses, there also appear things that are not like this, one should see whether it is because the meaning and words are not complete that it is not spoken. I am distinguishing the meaning of the spoken scriptures that have not been damaged, which come from a reliable source. Therefore, seeing that some things appear differently in some scriptures, one should not think, 'I will distinguish them as they appear.' But one should determine that the scripture has been damaged, and only this is true. How does one know the spoken scriptures that have not been damaged? Knowing the meaning and words of what was spoken, my teachers consider that the object of meaning is the scripture. The wisdom that focuses on suchness is, because it is without characteristics, the antidote to the consciousness that arises from the basis of conceptual afflictions. It is said to be endowed with mindfulness and wisdom, and from here it is shown by mentioning wisdom. By 'fearlessness,' it shows that it is the determination of realization, and the pursuit of what is hidden. How is it? Seeing the Dharma and pursuing what is not hidden.
