Those (referring to beings). The craving that operates in the desire realm, whatever belongs to the desire realm, arises dependent on it. Dependent on craving, the clinging to desire arises. Those will extensively generate feelings of wanting and not wanting in the future. For those who want to experience pleasure and those who want to be free from unpleasantness, operating in the desire realm will generate craving for existence and craving for non-existence. For those who want to experience pleasure, craving for existence arises; for those who want to be free from unpleasantness, craving for non-existence arises. Whether operating in the form or formless realms, the craving for existence or craving for non-existence, the cause of those is "it is other," which refers to views, ethics and asceticism, and the clinging to self-assertion. If asked, by what cause of craving is self-assertion clung to? It means that for those who want to have or be free from feelings of wanting and not wanting in the future, dependent on craving for feelings, self-assertion arises, or rather, the desire and attachment to clinging to self-assertion is not so, but if there is a view of self, then liking oneself is reasonable. Therefore, it is widely said that if craving arises in any place of feeling, then for the body of that place, which is the nature of clinging to the five aggregates, those children who have not seen the truth will cling to and love the permanent self, the autonomous, the agent, the experiencer, and so on. They will seek and cling to it because of attachment. Thus, the nature of the desire and attachment of clinging to self-assertion is caused by craving for feeling. Therefore, the Blessed One extensively spoke about these in the Sutra of the Earth Store. The sutra says, "From that, actions arise," meaning that from craving, the previously mentioned actions, that is, the various discriminations of the view of self, will completely arise. The sutra says, "Those who have not separated from desire will cling to desire," meaning that because they have not abandoned the desire and attachment to self. The sutra says, "Those who have separated from desire are different," meaning that

Moreover, it is said below that there are afflictions of craving for those (things). Wherever one has not separated from desire, then for that place, there is the grasping of aspiration and desire, it is said. In the extensive explanation of "completely perfect afflictions," completely perfect afflictions refer to whatever things, there are both afflictions of view and afflictions of craving. In terms of a person with completely perfect afflictions, the Blessed One spoke of these four types of grasping. Furthermore, it is extensively said in the sutra that "there is no difference," meaning that in other sutras, the Blessed One did not speak of four types of differences, but rather revealed that there is no difference. What are the dharmas that lead to grasping? For example, the eye and form, etc. What is grasping? It is the aspiration and desire for anything. This is the grasping here. These dharmas are consistent with the grasping commonly recognized by both insiders and outsiders. Some also say that the grasping of believing in "I" also exists in those (things). Here, "those" refers to these dharmas of the insiders. The aspiration and desire that the body is "I," that is, through the aspiration and desire of thinking the body is "I," etc., the view of self will also arise. Furthermore, thinking "I" and craving are also like that. Therefore, others say that the grasping of believing in "I" also exists in those (things). Furthermore, the cause (as) the proximate cause, the immediately preceding condition, and the objective condition will not become grasping, because only craving is the cause of grasping. Here, it should be understood that the causal condition of grasping is the co-arising cause, etc. The immediately preceding condition is the mind and mental factors that have just passed. The objective condition is desire, views, discipline and asceticism, and the speech of self, because here, any aspiration and desire is grasping. Other sutras also completely abandon it, because due to ignorance, greed, hatred, and delusion will universally arise.
