It is not taking, but the assertion of self as the basis for taking is what will be established. However, if in some other way, all these forms and formlessness, and completely endowed unions, etc., all say "This is me," then it is asserting self, not another taking. If you say that, then desire and completely endowed unions, etc., will also be able to assert self in the same way. How is the union of desire, and how are the unions of existence and view the same? What does that mean? Monks, the existence of foolish, unlearned ordinary people is arising and ceasing. After explaining this in detail, for existence, from the desire for existence and the joy of existence, this will arise. Until the special attachment to existence, this mind will ultimately abide, and this is called the union of existence. The union of views is also like this. Monks, the views of foolish, unlearned ordinary people are also arising, ceasing, tasting, and having faults. After explaining this in detail, for views, from the desire for views and the joy of views, this will arise. Until the special attachment to views, this mind will ultimately abide, and this is called the union of views. What is the union of ignorance? Monks, the six sense bases of contact of foolish, unlearned ordinary people are also arising and ceasing. After explaining this in detail, not understanding the six sense bases of contact is the increase of ignorance, and up to that point is the union of ignorance. Here, too, it should be understood that ignorance itself is the union of ignorance. Those who elaborate say that "to add to it" means that the unions of desire, etc., shown in that Sutra, are more added to than the desires and intentions, etc., spoken of in the Sutra. Therefore, it is also added to the taking, and it is explained in detail that the unions of desire, etc., spoken of in the Sutra are specially added to, and therefore.

Moreover, regarding the appropriation mentioned in that Aranya Sutra, you may have made an exaggeration. What is meant by "how appropriation is initially shown" is the desire and attachment there. In this way, there is no exaggeration, which is the extensive explanation. What is meant by "the combination of desire, etc." is the combination of desire and the combination of views. What is meant by "the appropriation of desire, etc." is the appropriation of desire and the appropriation of views, and they are extremely corresponding. This also comes from entering into wisdom, and it is extremely corresponding to how appropriation is initially shown. In those treatises, it is said that the desire and attachment to the speech of self is the appropriation of the speech of self and the clinging to self. This meaning is extremely corresponding. If you ask how this is, it is because it shows that for a long time, one has been clinging to self, and clinging to sentient beings, life, goers, nourishers, and persons. Therefore, for a long time, one has been clinging to self, and clinging to sentient beings, life, goers, and persons. How can they abandon the speech of self, desire, attachment, and clinging? If one is not separated from them, then that is a reasonable statement. Grammarians say that whatever self exists, its nature and complete knowledge should be declared. And the combination of form and formlessness and complete possession, etc., is the appropriation of the speech of self. This meaning is extremely corresponding. If you ask how this is, those who have been clinging to self for a long time, and clinging to sentient beings, life, goers, and persons, because they have not abandoned the view of the aggregates of destruction, they have also not abandoned the combination of form and formlessness and complete possession, etc. In this way, this meaning is also extremely corresponding to those. They have also declared the abandonment and complete knowledge of the appropriation of desire, etc., because the combination, etc., is common, and because it is increased by the view of the aggregates of destruction.

. The Extensive Commentary on the First Chapter and Distinctions of Dependent Arising, Volume Nine. Why are the four types of grasping established? As stated in other sutras: "Monks, the dharmas that give rise to clinging and clinging itself should be explained. What are the dharmas that give rise to clinging? They are from name and form to mind and dharmas. What is clinging? It is the desire and attachment that are clinging here." Is it not as it is said? Answer: Householders mostly take desire as clinging. This means that most householders take desire as clinging, but it is not that there is no taking of views as clinging. Most of the outsiders from this renunciation are different from that, different from taking desire as clinging. What is called "mostly" means mostly, and it is not that there is no taking of desire as clinging. What is called "outsiders from this" means outsiders to this, meaning other heretics. What is explained extensively as "like this" means that those outsiders like this are different from this. What it shows is that those outsiders like this renounce desires and become renunciates, desiring to experience or not experience desires in the future, desiring to be or not to be, they become renunciates. What is called desiring to experience desires means desiring to generate happiness in the future as well, so they become renunciates in order to be. What is called desiring to be separated from the arisen undesired means desiring that there be no many sufferings in the future cycle of existence, so they become renunciates in order to be not. After becoming renunciates, they also rely on the distinctions of meditation and discrimination, and views of permanence or annihilation will arise, as extensively explained in the Brahma Net Sutra. Those also rely on views of existence or views of non-existence in order. What is called the view of permanence relies on the view of existence, and what is called the view of annihilation relies on the view of non-existence. Thus, for the time being, those are views of clinging. Discipline and
