occurs, and the six aggregates of craving, that is, the craving arising from the aggregation of the eye faculty, are extensively explained as such, and similarly, what the aggregate of feeling is, is also extensively explained. If the cause is definite, then ignorance and contact, etc., will not become the cause of craving, and in this way, those mentioned earlier would become the cause, which is unreasonable. If it is said that the feeling of suffering will cause anger to increase, then if the cause has certainty, the feeling of suffering will not become the object-cause of anger. If one has happiness, the mind will be calm, that is to say, the feeling of happiness will not become the main cause of meditation. If one has happiness, one will proclaim the Dharma, where Dharma refers to listening, etc. Proclaiming refers to manifestation. The feeling of happiness will not become the cause of manifesting these Dharmas, which contradicts the Sutra Pitaka, and other similar things should also be stated. Therefore, it is said that the cause of feeling is craving. Like before, what does this mean? It means that due to the difference in the magnitude of feeling, the difference in craving will also universally arise. Therefore, in order to understand the cause of the difference in craving. Feeling is the main cause, therefore, this statement is not meaningless. How is it the main cause? Just like this, due to having feelings such as happiness, etc., craving will universally arise. Due to having the feeling of happiness and not separating, craving will universally arise, and due to not having the feeling of suffering and separating, and the state of neither suffering nor happiness, the craving of obvious joy will arise, or due to having it and not separating. The separate establishment of the meaning of the collection of craving has been explained in seven ways. The detailed classification establishment, like this: three cravings, as explained extensively. The separate establishment of characteristics, like this: the search for afflictions and attachment.

And, it shows what clinging is. The establishment of the causes and conditions of detailed distinctions is as follows: As it is said, 'The feeling of pleasure is the cause of craving, being associated with it and inseparable,' and so on, this is what is shown. The establishment of the causes and conditions without distinction is as follows: As it is said, 'Furthermore, the three feelings are mixed in general, and there is no distinction in the continuum of the aggregates,' and so on, this is what is extensively shown. The establishment of the intention of other causes and conditions is as follows: As it is said, 'Because the intentions are different.' Ignorance is considered to be the general cause of craving, and therefore it is said. Contact is also the same, this is what is shown. The establishment of special causes and conditions is as follows: As it is said, 'In order to show the distinction of the cause of existence, and also in order to explain it in the same way, as before,' this is what is shown. The establishment of the main cause and condition is as follows: As it is said, 'It is the main cause and condition of feeling, because in this way, craving arises universally through being associated with feelings such as pleasure,' this is what is shown.

The reason it is called "grasping at self-speech" is because it grasps at self-speech, so it is called grasping at self-speech. The term "regarding desire, etc." refers to grasping at desire, views, discipline, asceticism, and self-speech, so it is called grasping. This only shows the various distinctions of grasping through different aspects of grasping, but it is not the essence. What does it mean to say "it is not the essence"? Does it mean that it is the essence of intention and desire? Or does it mean that it is the essence of something else? That is what is meant. What are "desire, etc."? What are desire, views, discipline, asceticism, and self-speech? That is what is being asked. What is the grasping of those things? Is it intention and desire, or something else? This should be explained. That is what is meant. The phrase "because it grasps at desire, etc. themselves" means from grasping at desire itself, so it is called grasping at desire, to grasping at self-speech itself, so it is called grasping at self-speech. If the self-nature and various distinctions of grasping have been explained, then, the self-nature refers to the range from desire to self-speech. The various distinctions refer to the range from grasping at desire to grasping at self-speech. What are "desire, etc."? What is desire? What is it up to self-speech? That is what is meant. How should it be shown that it is grasping? How are those desires, etc., grasping? Is it grasping because it is something that should be grasped? Or is it called grasping because it is what takes existence? Just as seeing in form, the sentence should be constructed in this way. The phrase "should do this" means that just as seeing in form is called seeing form, grasping at desires is called grasping at desire, up to grasping at self-speech is called grasping at self-speech. Thus, in response to the statement "it only shows the various distinctions, but not the essence," some people can realize its self-nature through the various distinctions alone, as has been explained before.
