From this and that kind of sentient beings, death, transference, destruction, being afflicted by disease, exhaustion of lifespan, disappearance of warmth, cessation of life functions, abandoning the body, dying, the end of time, this is called death. This death, combined with the previous aging, is called old age and death. This is the differentiation of dependent origination. Monks, I have explained to you the beginning and differentiation of dependent origination, those that I have said are what I have said. Why is this taught? This is to inquire about the necessity of teaching all the sutras. If there is no necessity, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, would not teach the Dharma in various ways, therefore it is necessary to state the necessity of teaching the sutras. Is the necessity of the Buddha's teachings not necessarily for the sake of sentient beings' behavior? If so, then there is no need to ask. Because there are also many kinds of sentient beings' behavior, therefore if it is not distinguished for which this is taught as an antidote, it is necessary to ask the necessity. Therefore, in that way, it is said that it is for the purpose of showing that a great mass of suffering will arise. In that way, it is like what is said, "With ignorance as the condition, there are actions," up to "With birth as the condition, there is old age and death." This refers to birth, old age, and death, etc., and actions, etc. The mass of suffering refers to the collection of suffering. Great refers to a time without beginning. Only refers to being free from self and what belongs to self. Will arise refers to will be born. Abandoning behavior is the necessity of teaching, but it is not merely teaching the truth of deeply entering into suffering. If it is thought that teaching that is also for what? Therefore, some people do not understand "If there is no self, how will one transmigrate," in order to eliminate those who have doubt and wrong views, so it is said. In this sutra, the order of entering into samsara is shown, and it is also said that in the absence of self, it is only.

Therefore. So, that is a specific indication of the necessity of this. Among them, the so-called "having ignorance" indicates unmixed ignorance. The so-called "having doubtful knowledge" is similar to having doubt, that is, is there also samsara without self? Or is there a thought of having a self? The so-called "having wrong knowledge" means that if there is a self, there will be samsara, but if there is no self, it will not be. Thus, wrong knowledge is indicated as ignorance similar to improper attention. The antidote to the function of ignorance is evident here. If ignorance is completely reversed, then doubtful knowledge and wrong knowledge will also be completely reversed, because that is the root of all arising. Thus, by indicating those, the universal arising of ignorance, doubtful knowledge, and wrong knowledge will be completely reversed. By means of practice, it will be completely reversed. The statement "I am seen as the antidote to the view of self and craving" is a manifestation of the teacher's own thought. If someone asks: How can it be determined here that this is the necessity and not what was previously indicated? Therefore, in this way, by indicating that suffering arises without self, emptiness, wishlessness, and conformity should be done, it is said. Because the absence of self is an indication of emptiness and conformity. Among them, emptiness is the aspect of samadhi that is similar to having the aspect of selflessness and emptiness. The so-called arising of suffering is for the sake of indicating conformity with wishlessness. That is also a samadhi with the aspect of seeing impermanence and suffering, etc., except for the two aspects of emptiness and selflessness and the aspect of cessation. Why is it not signlessness and conformity? Because this is the beginning of indicating the order of entry, not the order of return. If it is not so, since it is the three doors of liberation, it is also necessary to say signlessness. For what kind of disciple is it?

It is said that this is for those who have a view of self and have not seen the faults of samsara. Because the difference in behavior makes a person different. For those who practice with a view of self, and for those who are disciplined by craving for existence, this is taught as an antidote to the view of self and craving. Those who do not understand the faults of existence will have more craving for existence. Those who have a view of the perishable collection cling to the aggregates of close acquisition as self and mine, and because they do not see the faults, they cling and seek. Just by the manifestation of the view of self, it should be understood that it exists by existence. If you want to say that the previously mentioned "heap of suffering" is necessary, why don't you think that this necessity is the same, just as you showed the necessity before? Or, just as you think that you doubt as soon as it is shown, why don't you think that this is the same? If you think that these themselves are necessary, then here the word "also" is very desirable. What is the need? Therefore, as it is said in other sutras, how the noble disciple who is endowed with hearing, with true wisdom, truly sees dependent origination and the dharmas of dependent origination as they are. Well understood, well shown, well acquainted, that is: Did I exist in the past? It does not exist. What kind of person was I in the past? How did I come into being? In this way, one does not follow the limits of the past. Will I be born in the future? Or will it not be born? What will I become? How will I come into being? In this way, one does not follow the limits of the future. Also internally, what is this? How does this exist? What are these existences? What will arise? Where do these sentient beings come from? Where will they go after death from here? In this way, there is no doubt. Similarly, son of Katyayana, whatever is not seen by true wisdom as the true origin of the world, that will not become non-existent in the world.
