Merely perceiving it as happiness is a reversal. In order to apply oneself to seeing suffering itself as twofold, that is, to apply oneself to seeing the suffering of change itself, and to apply oneself to seeing the suffering of conditioning itself. Because it is a method of detachment from attachment, that is, seeing that there are two kinds of suffering, seeing the aspect of the self-nature of those two kinds of suffering, one will not turn outwards again. Because it is associated with many sufferings, what is it? This shows that the feeling of happiness should be regarded as suffering itself. Like a mung bean meatball, for example, in mung bean meat there is not an absence of mung bean paste etc., but because there is a lot of mung bean meat, it is called a mung bean meatball. The young bhikshuni Lotus has already acknowledged happiness, so how does one say that a thought of suffering will arise in her mind? Because it is the cause of suffering, because it is the cause of suffering that widely occurs, for example, happiness is the source of the suffering of change, or through the order of craving, grasping, and existence, the feeling of happiness also becomes the cause of rebirth, therefore it is the cause of suffering. Because it is produced by many sufferings, for example, happiness is produced and arises from not a few sufferings such as plowing fields, doing business, and so on. Suffering is satisfactory, that is, for example, various kinds of suffering such as hunger, thirst, bodily illness, and fatigue, but desire arises for it. For all those reasons, if it is suffering, it is perceived as happiness. The cause of happiness is impermanent, this is shown through the way it is known to others, that is, those happinesses also do not exist, and the causes of happiness also do not exist. For example, drinks, food, and clothes etc. are considered to be the cause of happiness, but they are not the cause of happiness. Thinking that the pacification of other suffering is happiness, even if there is no happiness

This shows that the thought of happiness will be achieved. Regarding this, for the time being, this question should be asked: Are those things that are drunk and eaten, etc., the cause of pacifying suffering such as hunger, thirst, cold, heat, etc.? Or are they the cause of suffering? What will that become? If it is said to be the cause of pacifying suffering, then how will it be established as the cause of suffering? Regarding this, the feeling of suffering does not exist, that is the truth, because the cause of suffering is not permanent, it remains just like that. Drinking, eating, clothing, etc., whatever they are, if they are used excessively or at inappropriate times, those will become the source of suffering, but if they are used in moderation and at the appropriate time, they will pacify suffering. It is also unreasonable that just because of one cause it becomes suffering, and just because of that cause it pacifies suffering. However, how can those who are tormented by suffering such as hunger, thirst, cold, heat, etc., have the thought of happiness if they indulge in the causes of suffering? Or, regarding other suffering, if they have the arrogance of thinking it is happiness at that time, then at other times than drinking and eating, etc., they will also obtain the arrogance of thinking it is extremely happiness, because there is no cause of suffering. Those who have the arrogance of thinking that other suffering is happiness will obtain the arrogance of thinking that it is extremely happiness if that does not exist. The cause of happiness is not impermanent, which expresses the meaning that the reason is not established. If it is not like that, the detailed explanation is not like this: If only the pacification of suffering will produce the thought of happiness, then, will the tired body being massaged and doing other actions, will these two happinesses themselves not produce the thought of happiness? The so-called long time is longer than the time of massage, and longer than the time of doing other actions, will it only produce the thought of pacifying fatigue? The so-called reason is that there is also the pacification of suffering at that time. Sometimes there is also happiness.
