The cushion means that due to the causes of name and form, it is called the six sense bases. The reason for saying 'because it is the time of the four sense bases' is that if it is not said in this way, it would become necessary to say 'due to the causes of name and form, and due to the causes of the four sense bases, there is contact.' Why? Because it is the time of the four sense bases, it is not possible to say 'due to the causes of the six sense bases, there is contact,' because there is no time of the six sense bases. The reason for saying 'because it is shown that the place of contact is not completely fulfilled' is that the place, the six sense bases, has the fault of becoming the nature of the four sense bases, and that is why. What is contact? It is not possible to say 'the six groups of contact,' because the four sense bases are shown by way of distinguishing the limbs of contact, so when showing, it is necessary to say 'the four groups of consciousness.' For this very reason, it is reasonable that all the causes of manifestation and complete fulfillment are the very cause. Because it shows the main cause, as previously shown, at the time of the limb of consciousness, it is extensively explained because of the common and uncommon. In the Abhidharma-kosa, it is also said, 'If that changes, then the eyes and so on are the place.' It is shown that there, the meaning of the main cause is the meaning of the place, and it is completely shown that the result follows the transformation of the main cause. Some people think that at the stage of name and form, it is extensively explained that if, starting from the moment of intercourse, at the stage of name and form, there is the sense base of the body and the sense base of the mind, then the answer to those who say that is that at the stage of name and form, although there is a body, it is not the sense base of the body, and although there is a mind, it is not the sense base of the mind. The place of contact is called the sense base, which means that in order to prove that the sense base of name and so on is the reason itself, it is said in the Sutra, 'because the sense base of contact is mentioned.'

rir ro. Therefore, in the stage of name and form (nama-rupa), these two are not sense bases (ayatana), because there is no contact (sparsha). Here, it is considered that name and form, being sense bases, are the cause, so it is said that the six sense bases (sad-ayatana) are caused by that cause. It should be said like this. Contact does not exist at that time, this is in the stage of name and form. It is said in the Sutra that dependent origination (pratitya-samutpada) comes from this Sutra, this Sutra says that contact is conditioned by the six sense bases, and contact is taught after the six sense bases, not before. That is unreliable, because what is said is intentional. In this way, it has already been considered that name and form are the cause of the six sense bases, because it is the cause of manifestation and completion, so how should it be understood? We have already explained it. This is thinking and saying that the six sense bases are the cause of contact, if the place is complete, then at that time consciousness (vijnana) is complete. In the stage of name and form, not having contact is not non-existent. If there is no consciousness at that time, then to elaborate, if there is no contact at that time in the stage of name and form, then feeling (vedana) and so on will also not exist, because the cause of feeling and so on is contact. 'Extensive Commentary on the First Chapter and Differentiation of Dependent Origination,' Volume 7. What is the aggregate of feeling (vedana-skandha), and what are the aggregates of perception (samjna-skandha) and formation (samskara-skandha), all of these depend on contact, this is what is said in the Sutra. If feeling and so on do not exist, what is the fault? Therefore, if it is said that 'consciousness conditions name and form,' then what is name? It is said that the 'four non-form aggregates' is also contradictory to this. If there is no feeling and so on in the stage of name and form, then how can there be four name aggregates? It will become one aggregate, because only consciousness exists. Or, if there is something non-mental, then there are two aggregates, because they are the aggregate of formation.
