Because it is the nature of pure law, it gathers into form. Because it is included in the formations that are not possessed in the system of the exponents, it is gathered into name. From this Sutra Pitaka, everything is summarized, and it is considered that there is a name because of the cause of consciousness, not just a fictitious word. What is form? Slightly is form, whatever is form, thus widely speaking, it shows that there is no other form except the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements. Thus, for the time being, it is said that because of the cause of consciousness, form is like this, that is, the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements. Here, it is not necessary to hold that all forms summarized by the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements are caused by consciousness. The so-called until the six sense bases have not arisen, it is said that because of the cause of consciousness, name and form can be established up to the six sense bases, but it is not said that name and form are denied below the six sense bases. Precisely because of this, it is said that there is name and form because of the cause of consciousness, just like this, determined by it, thus widely speaking, just like this, because of the difference determined by it, the so-called difference of determination established by consciousness by action, other similar names and forms, all those differences will be achieved, the various worlds are born from karma. Precisely because of this, the Bhagavan said that the cause of birth is karma, and the cause of manifestation and achievement is desire. Among them, experiencing the three kinds of happiness, etc., is feeling, the so-called feeling of happiness, suffering, and neither happiness nor suffering is feeling, that is, becoming feeling, the arising of the feeling of happiness, suffering, and neither happiness nor suffering, is experiencing happiness, experiencing suffering, and the object of liberation from both, experienced by the mind. Grasping the characteristics of the object is thought, that is, what is the meaning of grasping the differences of the object, the object is the blue, yellow, long, short, woman, man, and friend of form, etc.

Grasping the distinctions of friend and foe, as well as pleasure and pain, this is perception. Other mental factors besides that, and non-associated compositional factors, what are those other than feeling and perception called? They are desire, contact, attention, wisdom, and memory, and so forth. Non-associated factors are acquisition and so forth. The close object is consciousness, which means looking at the object itself, abandoning distinctions. So, the eye consciousness knows blue, but does not think it is blue. The mind consciousness knows blue, and also thinks it is blue. If that is said, it would contradict what was said before. If asked: Consciousness knows blue as blue, that is associated, because the place, object, and aspect of mind and mental factors are the same, so there is no contradiction. The perception that is associated with the collection of eye consciousness and so forth, because it is attachment, and because the eye consciousness and so forth follow the aspect, it is not completely cutting off distinctions. Some say that knowing a little is consciousness, like eating a little. Just as eating a little is called eating a small amount, eating a little. Unpleasant knowing is consciousness, like an ugly form. Just as an unpleasant form is called an ugly form. Knowing that is incapable of the function of knowing is consciousness, like a distracted mind. Just as a mind that is incapable of the function of the mind is called a distracted mind. Incomplete knowing is consciousness, like an incomplete limb. Just as an incomplete limb is called an incomplete limb. Unclear knowing is consciousness, like undigested food. Just as food that has not been completely digested is called undigested food. If that is done, then from eye consciousness to body consciousness, it will become knowing a little, because it cannot completely cut off distinctions. Afflictions

Afflictions are unpleasant because they are due to inverted clinging. Knowledge with a distracted mind is ineffective because it is confused. What is incomplete refers to children, youths, and so on, because some are completely cut off. What is unclear is associated with laziness, drowsiness, sleep, and so on, because they do not completely cut off those clear aspects. If it is thought that way, then the term "consciousness" (rnam par shes pa) would only be a specific type of knowledge, as it has been shown that those are some other specific types of knowledge, but not mind. What is the fault? Therefore, knowledge and consciousness would not be the same either, because it contradicts the identity of substance, that is, knowledge is also the nature of wisdom, and it is also consciousness. Consciousness itself is mind, and it is not established that consciousness arises from mind, because the characteristic of consciousness is not the same as mind. The dharma arising from mind called knowledge will also not be included in the aggregate of formations, because mind, intellect, and consciousness are synonyms, and because it has been included in the aggregate of consciousness, it has not obtained inclusion in the aggregate of formations. The own-nature of knowledge will become consciousness, and that is also the aggregate of consciousness; it would be a fallacy that knowledge is included in the aggregate of consciousness. Like this, knowledge and consciousness are not the same, and the dharma arising from mind called knowledge will also not be included in the aggregate of formations, and such an establishment is not even an established extreme. Therefore, consciousness is a different kind from knowledge, meaning that knowledge that has not previously arisen is consciousness, which does not exist. For example, a bre (a unit of measurement) and a measureless palace, meaning that the bre itself, which has not previously arisen, is the measureless palace, which cannot be determined. So what is it? It is a different kind; whatever container is used to measure, that is the bre and small bre, and so on.
