That is karma. It is also the karma of those in the lower realms, so is it the path of karma? The mind that moves the body, all three of these are the path of karma. What is that? Because it acts according to its power, and because it cuts off life and so on, takes, and acts wrongly. In order to be in accordance with the world, it is also shown that it is the action of the body. Good and non-good are not that. If it is established, it is because the worldly comings and goings are very much connected through that mind's door. If only the mind is the karma of good and non-good, then in the Sutra it says, 'The three kinds of physical actions done after thinking, the non-virtue that has been done and accumulated, is the cause of suffering, and its maturation is suffering,' why would it be said like that? It is considered to be done from that door. It is shown that the mind other than that is the action of the mind, because it is in accordance with the mind, and does not cause the body and speech to act. Then why did the Blessed One say the action of the mind and the action of thought? Of the three kinds of minds shown earlier, two are after thinking. The third is what causes action, and this is also called the action of thought. Speech is language, the action by which the meaning is understood by what is said, that is, the mind that arouses, is the action of speech that has the form of letters, as before. The action that speech arouses is called the action of speech, the middle word is hidden, as before. Mind refers to consciousness, because it is not in equanimity, and because it tends towards other birthplaces and objects. The action of mind is that mind that is in accordance with it, the action that is in accordance with mind is the action of mind, as before. 'Ignorance conditions formations,' here it is said that there are faults in certainty and uncertainty in the two, cause and effect, that is, there are faults in certainty in cause and effect, and there are faults in certainty and uncertainty in both. How is it? If only ignorance is the cause of formations.

If that's the case, then this will be extensively explained. Without virtue and non-virtue, without intention and effort, etc., which means striving for the root of virtue with body and speech in accordance with virtue; striving for the root of non-virtue with body and speech in accordance with non-virtue; and without striving for virtuous actions with body and speech in accordance with the root of virtue. Merely from ignorance, merit, non-merit, and unwavering formations would continuously arise, which would be a mistake, and this would be extensively explained. Furthermore, in other sutras, there are also three roots of virtue. There are also three roots of non-virtue, and these three are the basis and origin of karma. That is to say, attachment is the basis and origin of karma, and so are hatred and delusion. The absence of attachment, etc., is also the same. If only ignorance is the cause of these, then this would contradict the fact that the roots of virtue, etc., are the cause of formations. Similarly, it would contradict the fact that contact is the cause of feeling. Discrimination and the two kinds of discernment are also the cause of speech, etc., and this would also contradict. In this way, if only ignorance is temporarily the cause of these formations, then because their cause is ignorance, if the cause is determined, there will be a mistake. Or, formations are only the cause of ignorance, which means that if the conditioned is determined, there will be a mistake. If the conditioned is determined, then there will be no result of the maturation of ignorance. Or, if it is not determined, then how can it not become meaningless to say "with ignorance as the condition, there are formations"? If one temporarily wants to explain the cause of formations, and says this phrase "with ignorance as the condition, there are formations," then one must explain the cause of all formations. Or, if one wants to explain the result of ignorance, then one must explain all the results of ignorance. Or, it is not for the sake of explaining the cause. Nor is it for the sake of explaining the result, then, in that case, this explanation of "with ignorance as the condition, there are formations" is meaningless.
