It is so. The karma of experiencing happiness is merit, and the feeling of happiness is between the desire realm and the third dhyana. Therefore, it is said that between the third dhyana, virtuous karma is merit. Experiencing neither suffering nor happiness is immovability, that is, the feeling of neither suffering nor happiness is from the fourth dhyana onwards, up to the peak of existence. In this way, the virtuous karma of the fourth dhyana ground, and everything practiced in the formless realm, are called immovability. Therefore, it is said above the third dhyana. What is the basis here? Just as the Bhagavan (Buddha) said, in these three dhyanas, these noble ones are wavering. In the fourth dhyana, these noble ones are unwavering. For example, monk, just like this, from desire completely separated, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, possessing both investigation and analysis, from separation arises joy and happiness, the first dhyana, attained and dwells. This here shows that the noble ones are wavering. Why is it shown here that the noble ones are wavering? Because here there is investigation and analysis, so this here shows that the noble ones are wavering. Monk, furthermore, after the cessation of investigation and analysis, the mind is completely purified, the mind is unified, without investigation and without analysis, from samadhi arises joy and happiness, the second dhyana, attained and dwells. This here shows that the noble ones are wavering. Why is it shown here that the noble ones are wavering? Because here there is non-separation from happiness, so this here shows that the noble ones are wavering. Furthermore, monk, abandoning the desire for joy, abiding in equanimity, possessing mindfulness and awareness, the body individually experiences happiness, this is what the noble ones proclaim, possessing equanimity, possessing mindfulness, abiding in happiness, the third dhyana.

The third dhyana is cultivated and dwells. This shows that the noble ones are moving here. Why is it shown that the noble ones are moving? For example, this is happiness. This is happiness, and the mind strives for it. This shows that the noble ones are moving here. Bhikshus, at other times, happiness is also abandoned, and suffering is also abandoned. Mental happiness and mental unhappiness have long ceased. There is no happiness, and there is no suffering. Equanimity and mindfulness are completely pure. The fourth dhyana is cultivated and dwells. This shows that the noble ones are not moving here. If the lower ground is not moving, then these upper grounds are established as not moving. It is shown that the formless realms are not moving. If that is the case, then the feeling of neither happiness nor suffering in the lower realms will become non-vipaka? Because from the fourth dhyana downwards, there is no experience of neither suffering nor happiness, and there is no unmoved karma. The feeling of neither suffering nor happiness is also considered to be the vipaka of the karma of other dhyanas. It also contradicts the sutras, which are explained in detail. "When merit is exhausted" is an example that there is merit even above the third dhyana. In the fourth dhyana, it is shown that it is unmoving because there is no movement in one's own realm, because eight conditions have been abandoned. These are conceptualization and analysis, happiness and suffering, mental happiness, inhalation and exhalation. Other dhyanas are not without immobility, because the movement of the lower ground is absent. The first dhyana is unmoving because it is not moved by the afflictions and near afflictions that operate in the desire realm. The second dhyana is unmoving because it is not moved by conceptualization and analysis that belong to the first dhyana. The third dhyana is unmoving because it is not moved by the joy that belongs to the second dhyana. It is said to be unmoving by category.

The category called "Ra," even though it involves change, has been explained in other ways. How is it explained? Therefore, it is said, "Just as nirvana is attained through its branch." It means that the afflictions of the lower realms are extinguished through their branches, just as nirvana is attained through its branch. What is it like to attain nirvana through its branch? After explaining it in detail, it is said that if it is said that the venerable Ānanda attained nirvana through its branch, then what did the Blessed One say about the venerable Ānanda attaining nirvana through its branch? The venerable monk, because of desire, is separated from desire; because of sinful and unwholesome dharmas, he is completely separated, accompanied by investigation, accompanied by analysis, with joy and happiness born of separation, he attains and abides in the first dhyana. The Blessed One explained in various ways that this is nirvana attained through its branch. Having attained and abided in the sphere of nothingness, and so on, it is explained extensively, and the Blessed One explained that this is nirvana attained through its branch in various ways. The venerable monk, moreover, having completely transcended all the spheres of nothingness, having realized the cessation of perception and feeling with his body, abides closely. He sees the defilements exhausted by wisdom, completely exhausted, and the Blessed One explained in countless ways that this is nirvana attained through its branch. What is the dharma called "power"? It is said to be the substance of the cause. The substance of the cause is distinguished by producing the effect. Therefore, for example, the fruit of the seed is the basis of a particular condition, and so on, is widely explained. Here, it should be examined: What is this substance of the cause? It is not something different from the thing. What fault would there be if it were different? If it were different, then the dharmas such as seeds would no longer be this. If it is not different, then how can it be established that the substance of the cause is one that has not changed from many things? Also, the so-called "cause"
