It is attachment. What is in accordance with it is not knowing karma, not knowing maturation, and not knowing karma and maturation. This is because, being ignorant of karma and maturation, one thinks that the agent and the experiencer are other, because one does not directly see dependent origination. Thus, whatever is not knowing the six things, such as the past extreme, should be understood as being in accordance with self-grasping. Self-grasping has three aspects, in order to show the reasoning for entering in that way. If there were a thing of self, then it would be permanent, independent, an agent, and profound. If that were the case, then entering would be reasonable, otherwise not. There are also four obstacles to liberation from that, called not knowing refuge, which is not knowing the Buddha, and whatever is said about the Dharma and the Sangha. This should be understood as being an obstacle to liberation, because one does not rely on the Three Jewels. The object to be directly seen in order to abandon self-grasping should be understood as the truths, therefore it is called the meaning to be seen. What is the meaning to be seen? It is non-comprehension, and in conjunction with the context, from not knowing suffering to not knowing the path, this should be understood as being an obstacle to liberation, because seeing the truth is the antidote to self-grasping. What are the incompatible categories and the abandonment and arising of the antidote? It is called not knowing. Among them, the abandonment of incompatible categories, comprehension is not knowing the cause, from what is called not knowing the cause, to the true arising of the cause, and non-virtue and contaminated things, etc., up to what is called dependent origination, the not knowing that is spoken of, this should also be understood as being an obstacle to liberation, because self-grasping arises from that. Having shown the true arising of the cause, the intention of also saying dependent origination is not understood. Not knowing the arising of the antidote is from not knowing the cause, to the true arising of the cause, and virtue and faultlessness, etc.

Whatever is the lack of understanding between dependent origination, whatever is said, know that this itself is an obstacle to liberation. Because the aspects of Bodhi are the antidote to clinging to self. If there is no manifest pride in the antidote, what is it? Not understanding, combined with the context, the six sources of contact, truly understanding, not understanding these, know that this itself is an obstacle to liberation from self. Because truly understanding is the antidote to clinging to self. Relying closely on taking refuge is to focus on the truths of suffering, etc., and through the practice of listening, thinking, and familiarizing, to be separated from unfavorable factors and to increase the antidote. If one realizes the truth, then the non-inverted mind is to abandon clinging to self. The opposite of that is not abandoning, thus it is established. As explained in detail in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra, not understanding the prior and subsequent limits is no different from what was previously explained, because it has already been said. Similarly, not understanding internally is also no different. For the external, it exists because, in addition to sentient beings, it also describes objects. There is a difference in not understanding internal and external, because for the actions of other continuums, by improperly viewing friends, non-friends, and ordinary sentient beings, not understanding that they are merely actions, whatever is not understood, that is, the ignorance associated with following the view of the aggregates, anger, and undifferentiated equanimity, is shown. Because the actions of other continuums belong to sentient beings, they are internal. Because they are external to one's own continuum, they are called external. Not understanding these, it is established that they are called internal and external. What is not understanding karma? Whatever is the lack of understanding of the agent of karma in an improper way, that is, thinking that the agent of karma is the self-existing one, etc. Thus, it is an improper examination. This is also the discipline and asceticism produced by the view of the aggregates.
