One aspect of it is shown by the various terms for seeing. What arises from meditation is called direct perception, because it is the nature of abandoning afflictions that have become manifest and realizing without perversion. This "direct perception" should be understood as meaning manifest. Its incompatible aspect is indicated by the term non-direct perception. Its meaning of covering the object refers to the term for the object of those cognitions. Because it becomes darkness, it means how darkness descends upon it, and it obstructs the light, obscuring the meaning that should be revealed. Ignorance is also the same, because it arises from focusing on it, it covers in the same way as covering the meaning to be known and the antidote to the universal arising of knowledge. Thus, this is unmixed ignorance, which is indicated by the term delusion. The meaning of causing wrong views is also an incompatible aspect. Wrong view is the form of holding to things in a reversed way. How is it? Because it is similarly associated with the afflictions of doubt, bad intelligence, and no intelligence. Thus, the combination with the affliction of doubt is due to hesitation. The combination with the affliction of bad intelligence is due to wrong views and so on. The combination with the affliction of no intelligence is due to desire and so on. Among them, whatever is combined with the affliction of doubt is indicated by the term universal delusion. Whatever is bad intelligence and whatever exists is indicated by the term ignorance. Whatever affliction of no intelligence exists is indicated by the term darkness. For the time being, whatever shows the combination of universal delusion and doubt with affliction is reasonable, because universal delusion is hesitation. It is reasonable to show the combination of the form of darkness and no intelligence with affliction, because when desire and so on manifest, nothing can be seen, because (as it is said in the scriptures:) The attached one does not know the Dharma, the attached one does not see the Dharma. Ignorance and the affliction of bad intelligence

So, how can the combination of afflictions be properly shown? Why say "cannot be shown"? Because it is to show another dharma that is contrary to wisdom, which is ignorance. Therefore, it extensively explains "feeling, wisdom, and knowledge," etc., explaining that feeling and wisdom are not different in meaning from the knowledge and meaning of those who cling to words. The form of "Ma" is the meaning of belittling, just like having no wife and no children. This belittling wisdom is the nature of the five views, because ignorance has the characteristic of being contrary to wisdom, so ignorance shows the various names of ignorance with the meaning of "many fruits." In reality, the word ignorance refers to the inconsistent aspect. By doing so, it shows the combination of ignorance and bad wisdom. "The holder teacher" refers to the teacher Asanga. "Not knowing the past limit, etc." means not knowing as it is, until the six sense spheres of contact are fully understood. It should be understood that there are two kinds of reasons: the reason that conforms to self-grasping, and the obstructive reason that is liberated from it. Liberation from self-grasping is liberation from it. What obstructs it are those obstructions, and it should be understood that one does not know those obstructions themselves. There are also three kinds of self-grasping, as explained in detail. Grasping at permanence is clinging to the entity of a permanent self. What corresponds to this is not knowing the past limit, not knowing the future limit, and not knowing the past and future limits, because confusion about time leads to falling into the view of permanence. Grasping at things is clinging to things that are without self as things of self. What corresponds to this is not knowing the inner, not knowing the outer, and not knowing the inner and outer, because confusion about the six sense spheres leads to grasping them as self. Grasping at the agent and the profound is clinging to karma and its ripening, as well as time and place of birth, as the agent and the profound entity of self.
