Because it has been shown that if it is not that, then this does not exist. Here, reasoning should also be stated, that is, "There is no result in the cause" is the proposition. Why? Because seeing it produce an effect. What is the example? The cause with co-operative action, such as clay, yarn, water, and people, the action of these causes with co-operative action, is seeing the result of the pot without self-nature being produced. The basis of production, the lump of clay, etc., the causes that are not incomplete, their action is also seen to produce it, so it is established that "there is no result in it." Furthermore, "because this arises" is synonymous with "another." If it is not said "because this arises, this arises," then it becomes not having refuted the permanent cause, because only arising shows the things produced by conditions, therefore it completely refutes the chief and the person, the lord and time, and the permanent causes such as atoms. If it is not said "because this exists, this arises," then it becomes not having definitely established it. What arises because of what arises, only that exists, then that exists, and it is not produced from the self and other permanent things, if that is the case, then it becomes not having refuted the permanent cause. For example, the Vaibhashikas say that because of ignorance, action arises, and because of action, old age and death, this is indeed true, but it is only if the self exists. Similarly, those who say that the lord, etc., is the cause say that it is only if the lord, etc., exists. Therefore, if that is the case, it also becomes not having refuted the permanent cause, so this is said. In short, the meaning is like this, the impermanent causes such as seeds, combined with other causes such as fields, its power becomes the cause of producing results such as sprouts, this is manifestly established, it is not permanent. The power that is completely grasped by other co-operative causes is also not permanent. Others say that this is showing other limbs, how is it? If ignorance exists, action arises, and because action arises, consciousness arises, and so on.
