However, saying that is to make the beings to be tamed happy to approach. I am only explaining, you should practice diligently, this is to show that practicing the Dharma is most important. Just hearing the Dharma will not be related to the fruit of realization, so when others ask questions, those words are one's own. This is to completely avoid the fault of immediately starting to speak unfinished words, and to benefit those who cannot ask questions due to fear, and to avoid the fault of distracting those who are single-mindedly focused due to inconsistent words and actions. This explains that this is the antidote to three faults. The three faults are: the fault of passing time, the fault of fear, and the fault of distraction. Immediately starting to speak unfinished words will lead to death, because the time has been missed. As it is said: Faculty and thought, time and desire, for embodied beings, why do sages teach the Dharma, therefore this saying is not meaningless. When the Bhagavan is not speaking, we should ask questions. Those who cannot ask questions due to fear, it is because fear has arisen. Fear is a Dharma that arises from the mind, and fear is the cause of not being able to ask questions. Wearing a one-shouldered robe, kneeling on the right knee, joining palms, and asking the Bhagavan, if words and actions are inconsistent, the fault of distraction will arise. Previously, one had been single-mindedly focused, so the Bhagavan said, "Listen well, very much." Therefore, in order to completely avoid these three faults, when others ask questions, the Bhagavan, with great compassion, personally asks, "What is the beginning of dependent origination?" The use of the word "for example" is to show the beginning of explaining the first principle, and the principle that is beginning to be explained is the beginning of dependent origination. Saying "for example" is to show the beginning of everything.

If this exists, then that arises; because this arises, this occurs. This is called the beginning of dependent origination, which is an undifferentiated explanation, because the limbs are not distinct. For example, 'conditioned by ignorance, there is formation' is because the limbs are externally distinct. The nature of the meaning of dependent origination is twofold: undifferentiated and differentiated. Among these, if there is a cause beforehand, then formations arise; this is undifferentiated dependent origination. Because it arises from what has not arisen, or because it is not possible to actually differentiate the object of investigation. Separating the limbs is showing the distinction of this. Among these, showing the object without differentiation is called the beginning of undifferentiated dependent origination. Therefore, it is said that the limbs of dependent origination are not distinct. Separating the object is the distinction of the beginning of dependent origination. Here, 'if this exists' means if it exists. 'This arises' means to be born. By the word 'exists', the sound of 'exists' itself shows the meaning. In order to eliminate the meaning of praise, it is said 'to be born'. It shows that it does not act by the meaning of arising, but by the meaning of being born. 'Because this is born' means because it has arisen. 'This occurs' means that the word 'is born' shows the meaning of its arising. Why is the undifferentiated first shown, and not only the differentiated? This is a wrong statement. It should be said: Why is this first shown separately, and not only the undifferentiated? It should not be said that way, because the words of distinction are necessary. For example, the words of distinction are necessary, what is it? If the distinctions of ignorance and so on are not shown, then showing the distinctions will become irrelevant. Therefore, showing the distinctions is also necessary. It is for showing the meaning of the conditions of ignorance and so on.

So, these are also the meanings of dependent origination. If it were not so, then how would the phrase "ignorance conditions action" indicate that ignorance is the condition for action? It is the same up to "birth conditions old age and death." The statement "because the nature of conditions is not different" means that because the nature of internal and external dependent origination is not different, that is, "this being, that arises; this arising, that is born." What is the need to explain external dependent origination? It is to clearly show the contradiction with the views of causelessness and regarding non-causes as causes. What is the difference in meaning between these two sentences, "this being, that arises; this arising, that is born"? Both of these sentences express that the result arises with a condition as a prerequisite. Therefore, it is said that there is no difference. If there is no difference, then why say it twice? Therefore, it is said that it is to explain each other. How do they explain each other? "This being, that arises" indicates "this arising, that is born." "This arising, that is born" indicates "this being, that arises." The necessity of explaining each other is also shown by saying that if only one of them is said, it will become the meaning of the Samkhya school, or it will give rise to the idea of permanence. How does it become like that? Therefore, it is said that they believe that even without birth, cause and effect exist, what exists exists, and what does not exist does not exist, which is their tenet. The sentence "this arising, that is born" clearly shows the meaning of the Samkhya school. To arise from what has never arisen is not birth, so what do they think? It is not that the word "birth" is used, but it belongs to the synonyms of manifestation. "This being, that arises" well indicates arising from what has never arisen, so how does it indicate? This being
