Etc., it is not allowed here, which means it relies on the eye and form here. Those relying on the eye and form, the arising of eye consciousness, this is also seen as merely a combination of this shore and the other shore, not the entity of cause and effect. Those, which means those that arise in dependence and connection, refer to the combination of this shore and the other shore. For example, crossing the river to reach the mountain, this is seen as merely a combination of this shore and the other shore, not of cause and effect. Just like summer passing and autumn arriving, it is the same. If it is said like that, then the basis and object of eye consciousness would become past, which would be unreasonable. This refers to if the eye, form, and eye consciousness are merely a combination of this shore and the other shore. Regarding this, the fault has already been pointed out in explaining the aggregation. How is it explained there? First are the sense faculty and the object, then consciousness, and after that, contact. If it is explained in sequence, then only consciousness can be the entity of the cause of contact, but the sense faculty and the object cannot, because when consciousness arises, these two do not exist. Consciousness and contact arise simultaneously, then consciousness can be the cause of contact, but if contact has already arisen, then it has no power, and if it has not arisen, then it does not exist either. Those who think that only the aggregation of the three is contact, and do not consider simultaneous arising as a cause, for those people, the sense faculty and the object disappear when consciousness arises, therefore they cannot be the entity of the cause of the arising of feeling. When explaining dependent origination without distinction, the Blessed One explained from where dependent origination arises, which means the Blessed One explained dependent origination without distinction, and did not explain what it depends on. Therefore, it must be said that the Blessed One explained from where the connection arises, because dependent origination refers to this shore and the ot

It is thought that there is the word "te" in the connection. Therefore, saying "this is also not acceptable" is because the word "te" is in the phrase "arising dependently," and it should be known that this connects the other side and this side, which is what was just said. The word "te" is also seen in the meaning of cause, as mentioned before, saying "relying on te" means appearing by means of that condition, that cause, and those acting causes. For example, if it is said, "relying on trees, fire arises," it appears as by means of those causes; if it is said, "relying on clouds, rain falls," it appears as when clouds gather. Saying "relying on snow mountains, medicines grow" is also the same. It is also seen when the agent is inconsistent, for example, in the world it is said, "having drunk butter te, there is strength," meaning that those who drank butter before and later had strength, not all of them have strength. Then what is it? It is that Devadatta drank butter before and later had strength. Similarly, here also, because the causes act as conditions before and the result arises later, the word "te" also exists when the agent is inconsistent. Saying "seeing a lion te, being afraid," means that those who saw a lion te and were afraid later, not all of them are afraid. Then what is it? It is that Devadatta saw a lion before and fear arose later. Thus, for the time being, in the world, it can also be seen in inconsistent situations. In the Mahabharata, it is also mentioned in detail, "seeing Drona's son fleeing in great panic te," meaning that having seen Drona's son fleeing te before, and later seeing those people become frightened, not all of those people are frightened, then what is it? It is because Drona's son, having seen the fleeing, they became frightened. Some who cling to words say that when the agent is inconsistent, that meaning exists because it is the meaning of cause, the former teachers said so, therefore, here also, in the case of inconsistent agents, that meaning exists in the cause. It is also seen in doing things at the same time, not just in the previous time. For example, sleeping with the mouth open and sleeping with the eyes rolled back, etc.
