Regarding the many sutras that explain dependent origination, the classification that accords with the principle is from ignorance conditioning action to birth conditioning old age and death. The classification that does not accord with the principle is, if what does not exist, then old age and death do not exist? If birth does not exist, then old age and death will not exist, and so on. The classification of the black side and the white side is the classification that explains through the causes and conditions of non-unwholesome and non-afflicted dharmas. The classification that shows complete and incomplete limbs is that in some places, the complete limbs of dependent origination are shown as twelve. In some places, the incomplete limbs are two limbs, three limbs, four limbs, five or six limbs, which are incomplete. The so-called "knowing all the distinctions of dependent origination" means that the distinctions of dependent origination are the distinctions of dependent origination. Because there is no omission, it is "all." Because of knowing, it is "knowing." "Knowing all the distinctions of dependent origination" means knowing all of dependent origination. The so-called "perfectly knowing dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence" means that knowing dharma here means understanding each dharma correctly. Knowing meaning means understanding each meaning correctly. Knowing words means understanding each word correctly. Knowing eloquence means understanding each eloquence correctly. Knowing dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence means knowing dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence. Perfectly knowing dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence means perfectly knowing dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence. Perfect means supreme. The so-called "each limb has a different determination," what is it? It is the direct realization of the infinite. The so-called "why is this explained?" is the question of necessity asked earlier. To show that this is the nature of reason, the necessity of explaining many sutras is to teach correctly, advise, and praise.

And, one should make them truly rejoice. The reason is that the disciples are universally ignorant, negligent, discouraged, and truly entered (into the Dharma), from the differences of two, three, or four. Regarding the difference of universally ignorant disciples, the necessity of explaining the Sutra Pitaka is to truly reveal it. Regarding the difference of disciples who have become negligent, instruction is the necessity of explaining the Sutra Pitaka. Regarding the difference of universally discouraged, praise is the necessity of explaining the Sutra Pitaka. Regarding the difference of disciples who have truly entered (the Dharma), making them truly rejoice is the necessity of explaining the Sutra Pitaka. What is said as "from the differences of two, three, or four" is to indicate that even a single one will transform from being universally ignorant of one meaning to truly entering (the Dharma) for some meanings. Regarding this, there are many necessities of necessity, which means the necessity of explaining the Sutra Pitaka. Or to generate faith, or to make them extremely rejoice, or to avert faults such as stinginess, or to accomplish the distinction of the qualities that are their antidote, or to follow after them, and so on. Among them, the necessity of revelation is to generate faith, because the Buddha generates faith in samsara, not ignorance. Extreme joy is also the necessity of revelation, because it is after realizing things like manifest enlightenment that one becomes extremely joyful, not without realization. Averting faults such as stinginess is the necessity of instruction, because if some people are instructed, they will enter into generosity and so on, but if they are not instructed, they will not, and stinginess and so on are incompatible with generosity and so on. Accomplishing the distinction of the qualities that are their antidote is the necessity of praise, because if some people are praised and encouraged, they will enter into the distinction of qualities that become the antidote to faults such as stinginess. Following the dharmas included in the limbs of enlightenment is the necessity of making them truly rejoice, because if some people are made truly rejoice, they will always enter into the distinction of their own qualities. This is another classification.
