Yes. If someone asks, "Is encountering unpleasant things suffering?" The answer is, indeed, encountering unpleasant things is the cause of suffering. Here, it is shown that previous sorrow and lamentation are based on the premise of separation from pleasant things. And it is shown that all sorrows, etc., are in the category of suffering. Therefore, suffering, etc., is not based on encountering unpleasant things. What causes separation from pleasant things is the collection of sorrows, etc., therefore it is said to be in the category of suffering. Furthermore, in this Sutra of Dependent Origination, the collection of sorrows, etc., is also regarded as one with separation from pleasant things, and sorrows, etc., are placed in a dominant position, saying that it is in the category of suffering, which is reasonable, not otherwise. Here, it is said that only the first moment of connection is birth, which is not correct. If asked, how should it be understood? In the "Differentiation of Birth," it is said that birth caused by existence refers to the process from birth to the end of life. Therefore, even if birth is the cause of old age and death, merely birth itself does not necessarily lead to aging and death. Just as hardness, etc., arises due to softness, etc., these extensive explanations can be established at any time. Old age and death are the cause of birth, which must be determined, but it is not said that one will age and die immediately after birth. The examples given have been explained before, such as the explanation of the branches of name and form, etc. Due to fatigue from the road, illness, sorrow, unabandoned fear, and actions done by others, one will age and die very quickly. If only birth is the cause of old age and death, then merely because of fatigue from the road, etc., one will not age and die very quickly, which would be absurd. If the only cause of old age and death is birth, then everything else distinguished by birth, whether defilements or pure dharmas, will not be able to arise, which would also be absurd.

Regarding the term "ground," if we say "distinguished by birth," then the problem arises that all different kinds of defiled dharmas will occur, sometimes some non-dharmas will also occur, and some dharmas that are both defiled and purified will also occur, and these would be excluded; happiness, intermediate feelings, and sorrow, etc., distinguished by birth, would also be excluded. These situations should be understood in conjunction. Among them, intermediate feeling is neither suffering nor happiness. Sorrow, etc., include sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and agitation. The statement "Because the unborn does not have aging and death" means that aging and death are characteristics of compounded phenomena, therefore the unborn does not have aging and death. The statement "Because even without the fatigue of the path, etc., it still exists" refers to aging and death. The statement "This is the analysis of dependent origination" means that this is the complete presentation of analyzing the branches of dependent origination. If someone asks: Because it is an examination of the Dharma, it is not possible to completely show the branches of dependent origination, then, in order to answer this question, it is said that this is the complete presentation of analyzing the branches of dependent origination. "Monks, I will explain the beginning and analysis of dependent origination." When I say this, it is for this purpose that I say these words, meaning that these words are for these purposes respectively, and are said considering these aspects. "Like that" refers to considering the aspect of analysis. "Those are what I said" is the meaning. "Through those" this sentence expands to say, "Through those" refers to for the sake of what I said, I said these words, this is what is shown through those words. In the statement "Previously understood the meaning and the letters themselves, and that," "previously understood" refers to both the meaning and the letters, and the one who possesses these is "previously understood the meaning and the letters themselves." "That" refers to previously understood the meaning and the letters themselves, and expressing it very familiarly, that is the very nature itself, this is what is to be shown. Mindfulness and
