Desire turns its back on existence, and actions that are inconsistent with rebirth, due to these factors, due to the cause of desire turning its back on existence. How can actions be accomplished in existence? That is to say, desire that turns its back on existence is inconsistent with rebirth because it desires to be free from the feeling of suffering. Due to the cause of existence turning its back on existence, grasping at views, etc., is accomplished. Therefore, it is not correct to show that existence is only due to the cause of existence. Then, what the Blessed One said, that taking joy from elsewhere is grasping, and also that due to that cause there is existence, as explained in detail in the Sutra of Feeling, those statements show that existence only arises due to the cause of desire, because it is thought that happiness is desire. For the same reason, it is also said in the Sutra that the desire for existence is associated with joy and attachment. Therefore, these words of the Sutra can be considered as desire. It is also said there that the gods' delight depends on happiness, if someone says so. Then, it is not correct to say that existence associated with attachment is desire, what is called being associated with it by mixing with others, just like practicing mindfulness that is associated with loving-kindness, a limb of perfect enlightenment. Happiness is also what makes one happy, what is called afflicted mental joy is associated with attachment. It is not reasonable to say that grasping is only feeling, because this is the self-characteristic of things, and here it is said that intention and attachment are what are closely grasped. Happiness in feeling is the cause of existence, what is called being associated or not associated with it is desire, because happiness is a distinction of pleasant feeling. That is also grasping, that is to say, desire is also a cause, it should be combined with the context. What is called the cause of the cause is that grasping, that is to say, the cause of grasping is desire, and the cause of desire is happiness, so it is the cause of the cause. What is said about that is that

Therefore, by combining "earth" with a person, it is shown that "grasping" is the cause of that person's grasping. Why? Because those who have much pleasure in feeling will generate revulsion. If it is said that pleasure itself is grasping, then they will generate revulsion towards feeling, because they see the faults of pleasure. The reason for saying "it hinders that" is that desire hinders the practice of pure conduct. The reason for saying "because it is the cause of transmitting defilement, women are referred to as defilement" is according to the sequence of speaking extensively, such as "if one sees a woman." For example, "The arising of Buddhas is happiness," it is not that only the arising of Buddhas is happiness, but that seeing the face of the Buddha will generate joy, and happiness arises from joy. "Teaching the Dharma is also happiness," should also be combined in the same way. Through the word "etc.," it should be established that other causes of causes should also be similarly approximated. Someone asks: If the cause of the continuation of existence is craving, then why is existence itself said to be the truth of the origin in other sutras? Existence itself should be said to be the truth of the origin, because existence produces rebirth. Or, if the cause of the cause of existence, that is, existence, is also shown as the truth of the origin, then grasping is the direct cause of existence, but it is not shown as the truth of the origin, why do the sutras show existence as the truth of the origin? After extensively explaining the truth of suffering, what is the truth of the origin? It is said that existence also arises, is associated with joy, pleasure, and desire, and is particularly delighted in that, which is the extensive content. The reason for saying "because the root is cut off, it is said that way" is that in order to cut off the root of rebirth, craving itself is said to be the truth of the origin. If that continuum is cut off, rebirth will not be achieved because the root has already arisen. Merely cutting off that continuum is cutting off grasping, so grasping, which is the direct cause of existence, is not said to be the truth of the origin. Or, that which is together with grasping is shown, meaning that craving is shown as the truth of the origin.
