The teachings. What is not knowing the former extreme? It is the improper consideration of past actions, thinking, "Did I exist in the past?" and so on, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the latter extreme? It is the improper consideration of future actions, thinking, "Will I come to be in the future?" and so on, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the former and latter extremes? It is the improper consideration of the inner self: "How am I? How do I exist? Who dwells? Who will come to be? From where do these minds come? Where will I go after dying from here?" whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the inner self? It is the improper consideration of the inner actions as self, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the outer? It is the improper consideration of outer actions, which do not belong to the category of sentient beings, as belonging to oneself, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the inner and outer? It is the improper consideration of the actions of others' continuums as friends, non-friends, and neutral, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing karma? It is the improper and inverted consideration of karma and its results, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the Buddha? It is not considering the Buddhas as enlightenment, or considering them in an inverted way, or being negligent, or doubting, or slandering, whatever that not knowing is. What is not knowing the Dharma? It is not considering the Dharma as well-spoken, and so on, as before. What is not knowing the Sangha? It is not considering the Sangha as well-practiced, and so on, as before. What is not knowing suffering? It is not considering suffering as suffering, and so on, as before. Similarly, the path should be explained as appropriate. What is not knowing the cause? It is the improper consideration of causelessness, or of dissimilar things like Ishvara, as the cause, whatever that not knowing is. How the cause truly arises from the cause, so too with the Dharma. These too are virtue, are without fault.

Because it is beneficial. Non-virtue is because it has faults. What should be relied upon is because it is beneficial. What should not be relied upon is not because it is beneficial. Having faults is because it is black. Not having faults is because it is white. Having the aspect of distinction is because it is guiding. What is it that does not know the six sense spheres as they truly are? It is not knowing the conceited one whose mind is reversed in realization. If all these unknowing are summarized, they are seven kinds of universal ignorance: universal ignorance of time, universal ignorance of things, universal ignorance of change, universal ignorance of the supreme, universal ignorance of suchness, universal ignorance of all afflictions, universal ignorance of complete purification, and universal ignorance of the conceited. From unknowing to the six names of ignorance between ignorance and the form of darkness, it should be known that these seven are the objects of all ignorance. The last two objects of universal ignorance can be combined into one, and there the two names of wisdom and darkness can be observed. Other names also include the opposing aspects of the wisdom arising from listening, thinking, and meditating, and these three names are in order. Because what becomes its opposing aspect is small, medium, and large, there are also three others. It should also be known that there are six names through detailed distinction of opposing aspects and detailed distinction of nature. And from the initial difference, also from the names of the distinguishing dharma, it is said starting from not knowing the past limit and so on. Monks, in short, it should be known that there are two kinds of karma of ignorance: namely, the ignorance of karma that gives the basis for all entering, and the karma that cuts off all returning. Venerable ones, what is all entering? Monks, where to enter, what to enter, and how to enter, this is all entering.
