I am not ignorance. The consciousness that is not complete, such as the eighth consciousness, is also ignorance. Whatever is separate from consciousness is not ignorance either. The continuum in which consciousness has not arisen, all such as the eye, is also ignorance. It should be understood that a dharma that is an opposing factor to consciousness is ignorance, like non-merit and non-fame, as well as non-attachment and non-aversion. What is its essence? Briefly, in the aspect of a loving mind, what is the essence of non-attachment? In the aspect of unpleasantness, what is non-aversion? These two are these two, and they are also not without the characteristics of opposing factors to attachment and aversion. Who can ascertain the color and nature of the senses such as the eye? When one is overcome by sleep, one still sees things, so one should ascertain that it exists. Likewise, one should ascertain that ignorance exists by the characteristic of being an opposing factor to consciousness. What is consciousness? It is that whose opposing factor is ignorance. Primarily, it refers to transcendent wisdom, and that which is in accordance with it and obtained after it. The wisdom that arises from listening, contemplating, and meditating, which acts for that purpose and completely trains in it, is called consciousness. In the sutra spoken by the Venerable Shariputra, it is also said: "When one knows and sees the five aggregates of grasping as they are, whatever is called wisdom, light, and direct realization is called consciousness." Why is it called consciousness? Because it knows as it is, and by it one goes to liberation or enlightenment, therefore, how should one explain the meaning of the word consciousness with reason? In the sutra spoken by the Venerable Shariputra, it is also said: "Endowed with life, Great Belly, knowing thoroughly, therefore it is called consciousness." What is knowing thoroughly? Knowing color thoroughly as it truly is. The arising of color is explained in detail. That is the meaning of knowing, therefore it is consciousness and awareness, therefore it is a definitive word.

It is shown by the term "wisdom" in the manner of reason, because it is very famous. Wisdom is also called reason, and that which makes one thoroughly understand is also reason. How is it appropriate to show the agent without any other actor? If it is said that the remaining combination is not seen in this way, then is it not seen that this very thing is thoroughly combined by proving with the two sounds of birth and cessation from the scriptures? But if that scripture is not valid, then why is the treatise on sound valid? In the world, it is also seen that the agent is shown even without another actor, such as saying that sprouts arise from seeds. Then why show karma? It is to show the object of wisdom. It is said that wisdom arises in whatever object, and one thoroughly understands in that object. Or, wherever there is a discordant side, it is destroyed. That "where" is what was previously shown, and it is spoken of in this and that sutra. Not knowing the beginning, etc., are divisions of ignorance, which are shown by object and name. The beginning, etc., are the object. Not knowing, etc., are the names. Among them, the part of the previous life is the previous limit. The future is the future limit. Not knowing the previous limit is because of doubting whether I appeared in the past, etc. Not knowing the future is because of doubting whether I will appear in the future, etc. Not knowing the previous and future limits is either falling into delusion without distinction, or thinking that there is no previous limit, no future limit, but only these individuals who are the objects of the senses. Not knowing the internal is thinking of one's own continuum as sentient beings. Not knowing the external is thinking of another's continuum as sentient beings. Not knowing both is being deluded without distinction about both one's own and others' continua. Not knowing karma is doubting and slandering the existence of merit and demerit. Even merit is perceived as sin.

Those acts of slaughtering livestock and burning, etc., and their opposites. Considering non-merit as merit, thus slaughtering livestock and burning, etc. Not knowing maturation refers to doubting and slandering the very existence of maturation. Regarding non-maturation, considering everything as having a cause from previous actions, thus considering it as maturation. Regarding maturation, considering the gods as self-born, thus considering it as non-maturation. Not knowing both refers to considering Ishvara and others as the creators of beings, or those who speak of causelessness. Not knowing the Buddha, etc., refers to hearing that the Buddhas' enlightenment, the Dharma being well-spoken, and the Sangha being well-entered, and not understanding, doubting, or slandering them. Similarly, when hearing the characteristics of suffering, etc., it is as before. The so-called "cause and the Dharma arising from the cause" refers to the twelve links of existence that are cause and effect. The so-called good and non-good refers to the dependent arising with distinctions, that is, the aspects of enlightenment, the aspects not in accordance with it, and those with causes are good, because it is for the sake of happiness, and because it is a pleasing result, and because it is the antidote to ignorance. Blameless means the meaning praised by the wise. To be relied upon means the meaning of repeatedly manifesting. To satisfy means the meaning of satisfying body and mind, because it possesses the distinction of extreme training. White means the meaning of being without stain, because it is without outflows. The opposite of that refers to the Dharmas that are not in accordance with it, that is, non-good, etc. Having distinctions means that those aspects of enlightenment, in a state of not being completely purified, are dependent arising similar to the aspects not in accordance, those themselves are with aspects not in accordance, that is, relying on superior individuals and non-superior individuals, etc., and the causes of previous lives.
