Because it is bent like a bent cane. When sitting, the body bends forward. When walking, one relies on a cane. In terms of mind, it is also because of the dullness of wisdom and the weakness of memory. Poverty of enjoyment is because the ability to enjoy utensils is weakened, and because one does not enjoy games and joyful utensils at all. The colored sense faculties (eye, ear, nose, tongue, body) do not clearly proceed or not proceed in their own objects. The decline of life force is because life is exhausted, approaching death, and one cannot endure even the slightest cause of death. Thus, these eighteen aspects of aging are explained. What is death? Whatever sentient being, from that kind of sentient being, transference and the very act of transference, thus extensively speaking, there are ten aspects. Among these, transference is the separation from the kind of sentient being. The very act of transference is the stage of death; whatever is transferred, that is transference, and its essence is the very act of transference, which is the stage of transference. Destruction is the separation of the collection of names from the physical body. Internal decay itself is the interruption of the colored sense faculties on the physical body. The decline of life and the disappearance of warmth, both of these also show the cause of existence, which is the previous pulling, and the cause of the exhaustion of the food that is closely relied upon. As it is said in other sutras, "When food is the time of sentient beings' existence, the existence of food is also the same." Therefore, with two words, it shows transference and the very act of transference. Thus, it temporarily shows that the exhaustion of life and gradual death, and the stage of death, both of these are death. Furthermore, one whose life has not declined, who possesses the life force, does not die gradually, but the life force is cut off, the aggregates are abandoned, and it is called death, which is a brief explanation. What is the cutting off of the life force? It is said to be "the end of life," which is synonymous with "the complete exhaustion of time." Therefore, the end of that time in which the continuity of aggregates of similar merit, which is drawn by previous karma, exists, is the cutting off of the life force, and the life force has other meanings.
