It is said that "treasure," so these words of the sutras can be considered as craving. If someone asks: Among them, the joy of the gods depends on joy, it is also said like this. It cannot be said that craving and desire are the same, and that which has the same nature is craving. Joy is also that which makes people joyful, it is the joy of the mind with afflictions, it is a difference of the feeling of happiness. It is not reasonable to say that feeling is only receiving, because these words of the sutras have a hidden meaning. What is the hidden meaning here? The joy for feeling is the cause of existence. This is also receiving, meaning that for the cause of the cause, its receiving is also like this, this is to make people who increase joy for feeling generate renunciation. For example, saying that woman is the stain of pure conduct, it is not that woman is the stain, but if seeing a woman, if one grasps an inappropriate sign for her, desire will arise. Desire is the stain of pure conduct, because it will hinder pure conduct. Because the stain is the cause of transmission, so woman is approximately called the stain. For example, "The appearance of the Buddhas is happiness, and the preaching of the Dharma is also happiness," and so on. If someone asks: Why is it said in other sutras that craving itself is the happiness of all arising? Because the later existence thrown by karma is manifested and accomplished, craving is the root, and in order to cut off the root, it is said like this. Or it refers to things that exist simultaneously with receiving. It is also said that the craving for rebirth, with joy and desire, manifests joy for this and that. For this point, there is no difference, wanting existence is rebirth. Because the joy and desire that are the object of what has been obtained are mixed, so joy is with desire. For the various enjoyments and various things of the body that have not been obtained, manifest joy for this and that, this is its meaning. For the two things of the body and the two objects that have been obtained and not obtained, like this, the four aspects of craving should be understood in order, this is the view of the yogis. Therefore, the nature of receiving, intention and desire are also included here. As the Bhagavan said: Karma is the field, craving is

is moisture. Consciousness is the seed. Ignorance is the form of darkness. The ignorance of those sentient beings becomes darkness, it is consciousness dwelling in the inferior mind. For example, it is the craving of desire. How should all that is extensively spoken of like this be understood in this sutra? The karma of the state of existence is the field. There, consciousness together with the grasping that approaches it is the seed. Grasping itself is moisture. These three forms are the cause of the sprouting of rebirth. Ignorance is shown to be the cause of inexhaustible moisture, therefore it arises from within this. For example, the moisture of a seed covered with fertilizer does not dry up. Similarly, covering the seed of consciousness with the form of the darkness of ignorance is the moisture of craving that does not dry up. Why here did the Bhagavan say that karma is the field? In other sutras, in terms of names, there are four abodes of consciousness. Monks, the so-called four abodes of consciousness are the technical term for that realm of earth, so it is said. Whatever object one delights in and is attached to, it is the consciousness together with grasping that moistens it. Name and form, here it is said to be its field. Without relying on the existence of karma, other consciousness of the same kind with equal fortune will not arise, therefore karma is the field. If, due to the cause of grasping, rebirth is manifestly accomplished from the craving of karma. In which sutra is it said that the cause of birth is karma, and the cause of manifest accomplishment is existence, then what is the difference between these two? If it is said that karma and craving are both causes, then, in that particular kind of sentient being, entering in the same way as the kind, or whatever enters in accordance with karma is birth, its cause is karma, because karma is various and because it is endowed with maturation. As it is said, therefore I say that I approach sentient beings as they are. Similarly, if the activity of merit is manifestly performed, consciousness approaches merit, as it is extensively said. Similarly, karma is sentient beings high...
