The Blessed One also said that it is touched by the feeling of suffering and rejoices greatly in the pleasure of desire. The feeling of suffering is also a cause for craving for pleasure. Furthermore, the three feelings, and in general, the craving for self in the continuous stream of aggregates without distinction, and the view of self arise together and occur together. That also arises from the path of feeling. The continuous stream of feeling is the cause of the master of all of that. As it is said in the Great Discourse on Causation: 'Ananda, if someone has no feeling and cannot find a feeler, would he still think there is a self?' Some say that when those arise without distinction, relying on craving for the reality of self, the imputed view of self will arise. Considering those, the Blessed One said that relying on the feeling born from the contact that arises from the gathering of ignorance, craving arises. From that, those formations arise. That is also established as clinging to the utterance of self. If it is not so, how would clinging to the utterance of self be established through the cause of craving? If craving is caused by the three feelings, why is it said that attachment to the feeling of pleasure will increase? Because it is in accordance with the pleasure of one's own continuum, and focuses on that, and is in accordance with that. If craving is caused by feeling, since all feelings exist, then Arhats will also have craving, which would be a fault. The joy of mind based on renunciation, etc., would also be non-existent, which would be a fault. If someone shows the rain of clouds, does it necessarily rain when there are clouds? Similarly, even if there is feeling, craving does not necessarily arise. Why does it not arise? Because it possesses the distinction of an antidote. The seed itself is shown from where it exists or is suppressed, because even if the cause exists, if the seed is suppressed by fire, it will not grow. For example, even if there are causes such as field and water, if there is no seed or it is suppressed, a sprout will not arise. Furthermore, the Blessed One has made a distinction, that

Due to the aggregation of ignorance, craving arises from the feeling born of contact. Similarly, when experiencing pleasant feelings, craving gradually increases due to not understanding the feelings, and it will inevitably not disappear. Therefore, wrong feelings are the cause of craving, but not all of it. So why is there no distinction made here in the same way? Because ignorance is the general cause of action, and its meaning has already been explained. In some places, it is stated that the cause of craving is only ignorance, as it is said in the sutras: Monks, ignorance is the cause of craving, ignorance is the condition of craving, and ignorance is the place of arising. Similarly, monks, what is the fruit of craving? It should be said to be ignorance. In some places, it is said to be only contact, such as: The six aggregates of craving are the craving born of contact arising from the aggregation of the eye faculty, and so on in detail. Similarly, whether it is the aggregate of feeling or the aggregate of formation, anything that arises depends on contact. Here, feeling is shown as the condition. How is this not contradictory to the sutras? Because the intention is different. It is said with the intention that ignorance is the general cause of craving. Contact is also the same. Feeling is a special condition, because in whichever realm of the three realms the ignorant feeling exists, the craving of that realm will universally arise. Even in the same realm, because ignorance is the same, the difference in the magnitude of feeling will lead to the universal arising of the difference in craving, and in order to make craving universally arise, it is necessary to rely on the difference in the feeling of contact such as experiencing happiness. Therefore, there is no contradiction in saying that craving arises from feeling as a condition. If the condition here is definite, then it will fall into the fault as mentioned earlier. Other causes, immediate conditions, and objective conditions will not become the conditions of craving. If the condition is definite, then feeling is not the cause of other dharmas, nor is it an immediate condition or an objective condition. The sutras say suffering
