No. If it arises sequentially, then first there are the two, sense faculty and object, then consciousness, then contact. Therefore, consciousness alone is reasonable as the cause of contact. The two, sense faculty and object, are not, because they do not exist at the time of consciousness. The aggregation of three does not result in contact, because only one of them has the power to do so. Even if it is said that consciousness and contact arise simultaneously, consciousness does not become the cause of contact, as previously stated. Thus, the aggregation of three does not result in contact, because only two of them have the power to do so. Furthermore, those who claim that the aggregation of three is contact, and do not want simultaneous arising as a cause, for them, the two, sense faculty and object, have passed beyond at the time of consciousness, therefore it is unreasonable as the cause of the arising of feeling, therefore the condition of contact does not result in feeling, because the three of them becoming cause and effect is contact, and not merely consciousness. Therefore, assembly is not reasonable as aggregation. It should also be said that it is not a cause and effect phenomenon. The meaning of aggregation is only the phenomenon of cause and effect, and the aggregation of three is also simultaneous, or sequential, how can the three of the six become contact, if they arise simultaneously, how can they be the phenomenon of cause and effect? One is not the cause of the other, like a shadow and a sprout. How can sequential arising also be the phenomenon of cause and effect? If you say that the cause does not exist at the time of the effect, like a seed and a sprout. Because the two, its cessation and arising, are simultaneous, like the high and low of a balance. If you ask, how can the effect of something that has passed away not be established? The answer is, because that which is without cause and the effect are simultaneous. For the time being, mind should be the cause of the consciousness of mind, like a seed and a sprout. If you ask, how can other minds be the first cause for phenomena that have passed away for a long time or are in the future? The answer is, because it arises from its power. If that is not the case, then the Dharma
