The arising of contact leads to feeling, and the arising of perception and formations; the arising of name and form leads to the arising of consciousness, which contradicts the sutra called "The Arising of Consciousness." However, if only name and form are the cause of consciousness, then for those born miraculously, since there is no name and form, the six sense bases would not be the cause of consciousness. Also, the limb of consciousness includes the aggregation of three, so it is not contact. However, if both are definite, then those two situations themselves would become faults. However, if it is indefinite, then the explanation would be meaningless. Here, there is neither definiteness nor the fault of indefiniteness, because it is to show the main cause. The type of consciousness that is completely governed by formations is the main cause of name and form, because its differences cause similar things to be different. Just as the sprouts of rice, barley, etc., are different because the seed is the main thing. Here also, because it is intended to fully explain the order of arising, the main cause of the six sense bases here is not consciousness. From this sutra, all the scriptures can be cited to separately determine each limb, and especially for name and form, it can be done, but because it is too cumbersome, it will stop here. In explaining dependent origination, name and form are distinguished. What are the six sense bases called "the six sense bases arising from name and form"? Broadly speaking, they are the inner six sense bases, because the six themselves are sense bases, so they are six sense bases, just like three lands, fruits, and heat. Because self-pride is generated towards these, I am the continuum of each individual's body and mind, and because it is dominated by it, it is called "inner." The sense base that arises there is called "inner," because it is the seventh case of the cause. Form, etc., are not, because they are common with the continuum of other consciousnesses. Or, the inner itself is the inner, just like those to be tamed, etc.
