That "Sapa" is also the same, starting from connecting with other similar things, until before death, it holds the body. The Vipaka-vijnana (consciousness of maturation) is also the same, because each life is the maturation of different karmas. That which is dominated by that karma, because the power of different karmas is completely exhausted, and the entry of other habitual karmas is obtained, it matures into the substance of that body and its place. Until one is liberated from suffering, this will not be interrupted for the time being. Monks, the consciousness of the limb of existence spoken of by the Blessed One is also the same, because if it is not completely abiding, existence will not be interrupted. So, what are its object and aspect? It is that the object and aspect are not completely cut off. In which Upadana-skandha (aggregate of clinging) is it gathered? In the Upadana-skandha of consciousness. So, if this is the case, in the Sutra of Differentiation it says: "What is the Upadana-skandha of consciousness? It is the six groups of consciousness." Wouldn't it be unreasonable to say that? This is shown incompletely, just like "What is the Upadana-skandha of formations? It is the six groups of thought." The venerable Mahodara (Great Belly), the so-called "unwholesome" refers to the unwholesome actions of the body, the unwholesome actions of speech, and the unwholesome actions of the mind. Showing it in this way is intentional, because thought is the main factor of formation, and it is believed that the nature of karma is said to be unwholesome from this sutra. This is also intentional, because it is believed that here it refers to the consciousness whose object and aspect are cut off, as well as wholesome, unwholesome, and unspecified consciousness. It is reasonable to have such intention, because those other dharmas have already been spoken of in other sutras. If asked: Has the Alaya-vijnana (store consciousness) not been spoken of anywhere? Most of the words spoken by the Buddha have disappeared, and this scripture is now mostly scattered, and the root of practice has disappeared, so it has not been spoken of anywhere. Although it is said that one should think about how to determine this, it can also be understood through reason, and there is no doubt that it has not been spoken of, only what has not been spoken of.

Where is it not possible to establish? Now, the reasoning here is that without the Alaya-vijñāna, it is not possible to establish consciousness (vijñāna) based on action (saṃskāra) as a condition. Moreover, even the body that has been obtained, the consciousness other than that does not pervade the entire body until death. For those born in the formless realm, it is not possible to establish another object of maturation encompassed by their actions for their afflicted, virtuous, and uncontaminated minds. For those at the peak of existence who possess the noble path, it is not possible to establish the substance of their earthly body. The noble path of that earth does not exist. In the Sutra Pitaka, it is also said that those who have entered into cessation, from "the activities of the body have not ceased" to "have not gone beyond the aggregate of consciousness," if it is said like that, then what is that consciousness that has not gone beyond? If it is said to be mind (manas) consciousness, then that aspect has already been examined before. So, what is the meaning of this phrase, "has not gone beyond the body" for the time being? The meaning is not separated and not dead. If it is said that even though that body has ceased, it is said to be not separated from the body because there is still rebirth, do you not think so? If it has ceased, then from where will it be reborn? That aspect has also been examined before. Therefore, it is necessary to undoubtedly acknowledge that consciousness is something else. That is the Alaya-vijñāna, and these are the reasons. In the first category of distinguishing characteristics of Dharma, it is also shown that the consciousness based on action as a condition is that itself. In the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra and the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra, these words are also spoken separately. In the Dharma and Abhidharma categories spoken by the venerable ones, that itself is spoken. Thus, from reasoning, the Sutra Pitaka, and the treatises, the Alaya-vijñāna is established. That is also for the sake of making existence manifest, as long as the existence that is particularly characterized by the power of action that is completely perfumed exists, it is called consciousness based on action as a condition. Until what is the consciousness based on action as a condition established? Until the stage of existence.
