What is mind? Some say it is the consciousness of mind. What is the object, what is the aspect? If it is said that the object and aspect are completely uninterrupted, then, didn't the Blessed One say that relying on mind and dharma, the consciousness of mind arises, and from the union of the three, contact arises, and from the cause of contact, feeling and perception arise? At that time, if there is no union of the three, how can there be consciousness of mind? Even if there is union, how can it be without contact? Even if there is contact, how can it be without feeling and perception? Why is it said to cease perception and feeling? For the time being, didn't the Blessed One say that craving arises from the cause of feeling? Not all feelings are the cause of craving, because for those who have exhausted their defilements, craving does not arise. Similarly, not all contacts are the cause of feeling and so on. In other sutras, the Blessed One specifically pointed out that craving arises from the feeling produced by the contact arising from the union of ignorance. But contact is not specifically pointed out anywhere. The craving of an Arhat is cut off from the root, but the cessation of perception and feeling in the attainment of cessation is not, so the analogy and meaning are not the same. Others say that the collection of abilities is a union, then these three are not the collection of abilities for the purpose of generating perception and feeling. This is to refute and eliminate it. Therefore, this is not contact. Then, is that consciousness of mind virtuous? Is it afflicted? Is it indeterminate? It must be said what kind it is. If it is virtuous, what is the fault? If there is no root of virtue, how can it be virtuous? How can those be without contact? Because it is abandoned by the immediately preceding condition of virtue. If it is said to be virtuous, that is not possible, because after the mind of virtue and so on, three kinds of minds will arise. Even if it is abandoned by the power of the root of virtue, even if the mind is of the nature of virtue, there is no cause to prevent it. The non-virtuous will also commit the same error. The attainment of cessation is virtuous in itself, just like cessation. If it is afflicted

How can there be afflictions without afflictions? How can those change without contact? Thus, the Blessed One also said that whatever is the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, and a little of the aggregate of formations, all of that is due to the condition of contact. If it is indeterminate, then it is considered to be four indeterminate minds, namely, born from maturation, activity, craftsmanship, and emanation. For the time being, that should not be born from maturation, because the mind of maturation of behavior in the desire realm should not be immediately following the mind of the peak of existence, because it is interrupted by seven other lower grounds. The mind of maturation of the peak of existence should not be born in the desire realm. Immovable karma does not cause maturation in the desire realm. If it is maturation, then nothing can be done as one pleases. Those who enter into samadhi can do as they please, so it should not be born from maturation. It is also not the nature of behavior, etc., because it is impossible for those who enter cessation samadhi to manifest behavior, etc. How can the mind manifest without contact? If one also speculates that at that time there is another indeterminate consciousness, then how can those who are capable of mind and abide in the samadhi of no characteristics be so distracted by objects and aspects, because it is not considered that the indeterminate mind has manifested. The Blessed One also said that in every way, having completely transcended the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, having realized the cessation of perception and feeling with the body, one abides, and this is completely transcending from abiding, but not completely transcending from detachment, because that is not absent for those who realize with the body. Therefore, for those who enter cessation samadhi, in every way, the consciousness does not manifest.

It is not so. Here is a verse: The nature of the peak of existence has no conceptualization, wanting the very nature of non-conceptualization. In cessation, there is no ground or mind of it, therefore it is something else. Some say that the absorption of cessation is only a state of no mind. If so, the continuum of mind has been cut off, then how does the mind, which is conditioned by action, arise? Some say that it does not arise from the mind, but because the mind has completely conditioned the root of the body. If so, how does it not contradict the Sutra that says, "Relying on mind and Dharma, the consciousness of mind will arise"? The answer is that sometimes the habit of mind is also called mind, just as the habit of karma is also called karma. When is the maturation of karma spoken of? If so, in this discrimination, the seed of the maturation of mind exists in two continuums, one conditioned by the continuum of mind, and one by the continuum of body. Therefore, the consciousness of mind will arise simultaneously. Why, when one arises, does the other not arise? If, like consciousness, the root of the body is also conditioned by mind and mental factors, then it is also completely conditioned by meritorious deeds and other actions, therefore it should not be said that consciousness is only produced by the cause of action. Consciousness is only a condition, and name and form are not, because the root of the body also has power over it. Some say that action as a condition refers to the consciousness that connects to rebirth in the mother's womb, just as karma connects to rebirth in another life. Thus, from the great category of causes, Ananda, if consciousness does not enter the mother's womb, will its name and form become blurred? If so, this discrimination also contradicts the Sutra and contradicts reason. How does it contradict the Sutra? Thus, in the branch of consciousness, it is distinguished as the six aggregates of consciousness.
