Because the cause that can produce is the main cause itself. The common cause means that the eye is the cause of all forms of consciousness of form, such as blue. The uncommon cause means that it is the cause of consciousness of the same continuum. Similarly, one should speak appropriately about the mind as well. In other sutras, it is said that consciousness arises from two things. What are the two? They are what is said from the eye and form to the mind and dharma. Also, in other sutras, it is said that consciousness arises from the cause of name and form, and all the aggregates of consciousness, even a little, arise dependent on name and form. Also, in other sutras, the venerable Shariputra said, "For what reason, O long-lived one, is the inner sense-source of the eye not completely damaged, and the outer sense-source of form appears? If the attention that produces it abides closely, then the eye consciousness born from it will arise." Similarly, one should speak appropriately up to the consciousness of the mind. If this sutra says that consciousness arises from the cause of action, then how can it not be contradictory to what was said earlier? Because the intention is different. In order to clearly show that the six consciousnesses are definitely produced by the determination of the sense faculty and the object, it is said that consciousness depends on two things. Such meanings are expressed in verses: The five pairs are the sense faculties, The object of which is those themselves, Whatever is that is the object itself, The sixth source of birth is two. Attention is the common cause of all without distinguishing types. Even if the sense faculty and the object exist, in order to show that this which produces it is observation, and without attention, consciousness will not arise, the cause of attention is also mentioned. "Producing it" means that producing it is the producer in the manner of a definite word. As it is said in other sutras: Whether he goes to the village or comes back, or goes to a solitary place tomorrow, the sins he commits, that is, the many unwholesome thoughts that arise, will later give rise to regret. Or, that which is born for it is that which produces it, is the cause.

Because it is the seventh characteristic. For example, a leopard is killed for its skin, an elephant is killed for its meat, a yak is killed for its tail, and a male mouse is killed for a woman. What is the attention that generates it? It is that which is not contradictory. For example, when one is asleep, drunk, or distracted, even if the other two are present, consciousness does not arise because of that, since the attention that is not contradictory to it arises universally. It arises later as well, because it is separate from it. The Blessed One said that the aggregation of sense organs, objects, and attention is the condition for consciousness through name and form. Furthermore, it is said that consciousness is conditioned by action in order to generate existence and to bring about the arising of potential. Although consciousness arises moment by moment due to the conditions of sense organs, objects, and attention, without action, potential does not arise for the sake of accomplishing manifest existence, but it is potential by the power of its strength. For example, soaking red madder juice in the flowers of Bijapuraka is to generate the potential for red saffron to arise; without it, it would not arise. That is the analogy. Thus, because the intentions are different, there is no contradiction between the earlier and later statements. If name and form arise in the future from the cause of consciousness that is completely conditioned by action, then how can action exist in the consciousness that is completely conditioned in the meditative absorption without mind and in the cessation of consciousness of the non-percipient? From where will future name and form arise, since in that state there is no mind? If one thinks in this way, are those faults present? The Sutra Pitaka says that the meditative absorption of cessation is with mind, because one who has entered the meditative absorption of cessation has not ceased the bodily action, and it is asserted that consciousness has not separated from the body. Therefore, the stream of consciousness does not cease until one has not passed into nirvana without remainder. Because the consciousness that is believed to exist at that time
