After I have attained it, whatever is agreeable to the elements of this tree trunk will also change in the same way, and not otherwise. What is the reason for this? It is because this tree trunk has various elements. What is meant by 'elements and agreeable' is that the characteristics of earth, etc., are regarded as elements. The statement that this tree trunk has various elements means that seeds, abilities, and the substance of matter are regarded as elements. It does not refer to the branches of the characteristics of earth, etc., because for one tree trunk, due to the differences in the aspirations of meditators, the branches may change infinitely, so it does not lead to the fault of infinite branches. Therefore, it is the substance of matter that is regarded as elements, and not other dharmas. This is another example. How long does the seed that has grown in the mind-stream last? It lasts until the fruit has not yet appeared. The nature of bodily actions, etc., is the bodily formations, etc., and this is established. What is the body? What is action? Why is it called the body? Why is it called action? It is also necessary to explain the action of the body. Similarly, up to the action of the mind. If it is said that way, there will be too much to say. Therefore, those should be understood from the establishment of action. 'Conditioned by ignorance, formations arise.' Here, there is a fault in both the condition and the conditioned, in terms of certainty and uncertainty. If ignorance alone is the condition for formations, then their condition is only ignorance, and not others. Even without virtue and non-virtue, and desire and effort, etc., meritorious, non-meritorious, and unwavering formations would constantly arise from ignorance alone, which would be a fault. Also, in other sutras it is said: 'The roots of virtue are also three, and the roots of non-virtue are also three. The three are the basis of action and the arising.' 'Conditioned by contact, feeling, perception, and thought arise, and they are expressed after analysis and examination, but not without analysis and examination,' etc. This also contradicts what was said. Or, only ignorance is the condition for formations.
