Hearing many times, that is, hearing arises from hearing. Since it does not arise from not hearing, hearing is the state of relying on hearing many times. What is called experiencing joy with reverence is listening with reverence in body, speech, and mind to the Dharma and the person who speaks the Dharma. Listening with reverence in this way will produce joy and satisfying goodness, so hearing is the state of experiencing joy with reverence. Among them, listening with reverence in body means not showing unsightly bodily behavior at any time, but performing prostrations, joining palms, and so on. Listening with reverence in mind means having no thoughts of harming the Dharma and the speaker, no thoughts of contempt, no thoughts of fault-finding, but with the thought of pursuing the meaning of the Dharma, thinking that this will increase the power of the unsurpassed path, and then listening. Listening with reverence in speech means not speaking any degrading words to the speaker, but constantly praising his qualities. From hearing, the mind will not be distracted, and one will obtain the characteristic of tranquility, which is meditative concentration. With tranquility, the senses such as the eyes will not enter their objects, and the mind will not be disturbed by many conceptual thoughts, so the mind will feel at ease, and when the mind is at ease, the body will also be at ease, so it is called the state of bodily ease. From hearing, one can obtain the characteristic of wisdom, which is insight. Insight eliminates doubt and hesitation, so the mind will be very joyful, which is the state of extreme joy of the mind. The two faults of diligence are being too hasty and being lazy, which leads to not wanting to listen to the Dharma later, or sometimes listening and sometimes not listening, which is weariness. Without this situation, it is listening without weariness. Listening in three ways: with meaning, Dharma, and earnestness, respectively indicates the hearing that should be attained, the hearing that should be spoken, and the hearing that should be cultivated. Among them, meaning refers to Nirvana, because it is the fruit attained by the noble path. Dharma refers to the twelve divisions of scripture, which are sutras, geyas, vyakaranas,

The section on divisions, the section on specific discourses, the section on topics, the section on accounts of realization, the section on such occurrences, the section on Jataka tales, the section on extensive teachings, the section on wonderful Dharma, and the section on definitive teachings. Among these, what is the Sutra section? It is where the Blessed One, in various places and times, initiated teachings based on discipline and disciplinary conduct, speaking of matters related to aggregates, elements, dependent origination, food, realms, and matters related to Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Tathagatas. It also includes teachings related to mindfulness, right exertion, the foundations of miraculous powers, faculties, strengths, limbs of enlightenment, as well as contemplations on unattractiveness, breathing in and out, training, and discourses that generate faith through understanding. All these are accurately collected and, for the sake of the Dharma's long duration, arranged and combined in appropriate order using names, words, and letters that are in harmony. The section proclaimed with melodies refers to the Sutras that end with verses, praises, and guidance. The section on prophecies refers to the passing away and death of Shravakas, the prediction of their rebirths, and the Sutras with definitive meanings. The section on verses is not explained in a solitary manner but is explained by combining roots in two, three, four, five, or six roots. The section on specific discourses refers to teachings that do not mention or reveal the names and lineages of individuals but are taught for the sake of the long duration of the sacred Dharma in the future. The section on topics refers to teachings that mention and reveal the names and lineages of individuals, and includes the origins of those who are disciplined, as well as the Sutras of Pratimoksha that include topics. The section on accounts of realization refers to teachings shown with examples, where the nature of the meaning becomes clear through the example. The section on such occurrences refers to those that have some prior connection.
