Listening respectfully without despising the speaker. Conforming and upholding means practicing as instructed by the Khenpo and Acharya. Being pleased means listening without turning back and showing respectful conduct. Serving and honoring means prostrating to the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma as much as possible, and serving with body and speech. Alternatively, the antidote to not serving and honoring is serving and honoring. Not serving and honoring means the listener sits on a high seat, and the speaker sits on a low seat, stretching out limbs, opening the mouth wide, and listening with a bad attitude. Those who have the merit of hearing the Dharma do not put the Dharma in a secondary position like that. Therefore, this is called the manner of serving and honoring. Listening attentively means listening without being distracted outwardly, nor being controlled inwardly by sleep and drowsiness, without these two defilements of listening to the Dharma. The Sutra also says: Monks, these two are the defilements of listening to the Dharma, you should abandon them. What are the two? A restless and a dejected mind. Therefore, it is said like that. Paying attention means understanding the meaning and intention of the Dharma as it is taught, without distortion. Among them, understanding the meaning of the Dharma as it is, means not thinking that actions and so on arise because of ignorance, or that they arise from a causeless or inappropriate cause. Understanding the intention without distortion means, as it is said in the Sutra, all feelings are suffering. But the feeling of happiness and the feeling of neither suffering nor happiness are not inherently suffering, but one must understand that this refers to the intention of change and the action of action, and so on. Not being distracted means not having the three distractions, namely, self-distraction, outward distraction, and inward distraction. Among them, self-distraction means that when listening to the Dharma, the consciousnesses of the eye and so on give rise to various discriminations about things. Outward distraction means that when listening to the Dharma, one does not want to listen and feels bored, and discriminations arise about forms and so on. Inward distraction means being controlled by depression or agitation when listening to the Dharma. Staying means the posture of the body is not agitated, sitting and listening in one place. Jewel!

Moreover, recognizing that listening to the Dharma itself is as rare as a jewel, one should listen with this recognition. Alternatively, listening to the sacred Dharma becomes the cause of benefit and happiness, and is extremely rare and difficult to practice. Generating this recognition and listening is called the form of regarding it as a jewel. Among them, it becomes the cause of benefit because it is the cause of obtaining happiness from the happiness of gods and humans up to Nirvana. It becomes the cause of happiness because it abandons the extreme of the ascetic who exhausts himself, and the extreme of the decline of desires of those who enjoy desires, and is the cause of entering the middle way of happiness. It is extremely rare because the Tathagata appears in the world once in a hundred lifetimes, and the preaching of the sacred Dharma also occurs once in a hundred lifetimes. It is difficult to practice because even listening to just one four-line verse from the Tathagata's scriptures requires the accumulation of immeasurable merit and wisdom. Regarding it as medicine is because listening to the Dharma can cure the disease of the three poisons. Therefore, it has been clearly explained above that it is the form of pacifying all the diseases of afflictions. The so-called "vessel of mindfulness" is because mindfulness itself is the vessel, so it is the vessel of mindfulness. The word mindfulness refers to the wisdom of listening. The word vessel refers to the basis of not forgetting. Because the taming of the mind arises from listening, and it becomes the basis of not forgetting, listening is the form of the vessel of mindfulness. The so-called "reflection" refers to the wisdom of thinking. The wisdom of thinking also has two forms due to the difference between calm and insight. Among them, because one knows through reflection, it is called reflection knowledge. The word reflection knowledge refers to the wisdom of calm. The so-called "desire for wisdom," the word wisdom refers to the wisdom of non-meditation. For example, those who are endowed with listening will like vast wisdom. Or, the so-called "desire" refers to something like burning or bright. Because listening can make wisdom bright, it is called the form of desiring wisdom. Wisdom refers to the wisdom that arises from meditation, and entering refers to making it habitual. For example, listeni
